Replacing Brother MFC-8440 Fuser

I need to replace the fuser on our Brother MFC-8440. The new fuser arrived without instructions. Can someone point me to the instructions for this task?

Thanks & have a great day,
John

Thanks for your response. I discovered this exact resolution while waiting for replies to my query and it is the precise solution to changing the fuser. If you also want to reset the error message you need to do the following:

Press "Menu, *, 2, 8, 6, 4" swiftly to enter maintenance mode (it took me 4 tries to get it right). Once you get into maintenance mode enter "91". And finally, enter "99" to exit maintenance mode.

I wish that I could find documentation on Maintenance Mode.

    Have a great day,

    John

To remove the fuser - remove the tray at the bottom and the back tray (4 screws, 2 either side) lift out the phone line box on the right (looking from the back - 2 screws) and swing it out of the way (careful as cable isn't too long) 2 screws either side of the fuser (long black object at the bottom) unplug the halogen lamp (white plug on left) and small 5 wire plug on right, and lift out fuser unit.

I reset the laser message by pressing menu * 2 8 6 4 quickly then 88 then select fuser and clear it. Press stop to go back to maintenance mode then repeat for laser. Press stop to enter maintenance mode then press 99 to exit to the main screen.

Brother MFC 8440 showing error code MACHINE ERROR 6A or 6E

Hi.

Both errors are signalling a temperature problem in fuser assembly.

The solution below applies to several Brother models. Depending on the model, the reset procedure may be different.

Brother Error 6A means that the thermistor located in the fuser assembly did not detect that required temperature had been reached in valid time.

First you can try entering in maintenancemode and clearing the error. If that does not work, that means that the thermistor, the lamp, or the whole fuser assembly must be replaced.

Error 6E is similar. 6E is diplayed when thermistor detect that the fuser temperature is not going up at least at 2°C every for 5 seconds.

As for 6A, first reset the code. If the error does not clear the fault can concern the thermistor, the fuser lamp or the power supply to the fuser assembly.

To reset the error code follows these steps:

1. Press MENU *,2,8,6,4 . Press keys within 2 seconds.
2. The machine beeps and display shows “maintenance".
3. Look for Init or Reset on menu, and enter the corresponding parameter.
4. To exit press 99.

This procedure above usually works on MFC-8xxx model. On other models you may need to do the following:

1) Unplug machine.
2) Hold down menu key. Plug in machine.
3) Release menu key.
4) Enter 91
5) Enter 99

or:

1) Disconnect the printer power cord.
2) Hold down the menu key while plugging in machine at same time.
3) Enter 99 while holding down menu key
4) After menu says " wait" push the stop/exit button to get out of the maintenance mode.

If that does not work, it means that the fuser assembly must be replaced. Here the part for MFC-8440: Genuine Brother Mfc8440 Fuser Assembly.

Regards.

Machine error 6F on a brother mfc-8440 how can I fix this. I need to print bad

this could be either the thermal fuse on the machine or the power suply. it means that the fuser on the machine is not heating up. this error would need servicing on the machine unfortunatly

Brother mfc 8440 error 78

This refers to a error with the fuser temperature you need it repaired by a service technician. Parts can be as little as $15 for the thermistor sensor or as much as $100 for a new fuser.

Brother MFC 8440 makes very loud noise when printing/copying

Very commonly a broken gear on the right side of the fuser. Replace the fuser and this will fix your issue. Let me know if you need a part number and pricing.

Good luck!

Machine has a catching noise

See if it's printing or not, usually the fuser gears wear out and either the gears need replacing or the full fuser assembly, there are other possibilities but this is likely the cause

NOTE: try removing the cartridge then turn on to make sure it's not that

thanks for rating
