I have a GE A730 digital camera. I bought mine and 2 others last December. The "battery exhausted" warning shows up after just a couple of pictures although the battery indicator shows the battery to be charged. The camera shuts down. I have replaced all of my rechargeable batteries with new and fully charged ones to no avail. I have deleted all my picures and videos after downloading them and formatted my memory - also to no avail. Can you help? I see that others have had the same problem.

Re: battery exhausted warning
Do the others show the same problem?
Try this: RESET ALL in the menu or setup menu. If that does not work, make sure that the in the menu (if it is there) you set the battery type to rechargeable not alkaline . You may try alkaline batteries, if it does the same, the camera may need repair.
Some cameras will not set the battery type automatically.

Proprietary? The GE A730 uses standard AA batteries. If you choose to use rechargeable batteries then you can charge them using any standard AA charger. Such chargers should be available at just about any department, electronics, or office-supply store.
Your camera seems to be having a shutter problem. It could be some particles/dirt which might not be allowing the shutter blade move freely or it could be a broken flex problem. Either ways, a non technical person will not be able to do much and access the shutter. You need to seek a camera technician's help for cleaning otherwise replacement of the shutter unit. Actually I have this camera and one that didn't stay on without fresh batteries every few minutes was given to me to tinker with. It is a software problem and if you are patient and follow the directions exactly...a simple firmware upgrade should resolve this issue for you.
Go to: http://www.general-imaging.com/us/firmware.html
Locate the blue box on the left that says QUICK LINKS and then click on FIRMWARE UPGRADES and locate your camera model. I hope this is helpful.
Go to the website.
Search online with a search engine such as yahoo.com and key in "GE A730 software, driver download". Here is the GE site (firmware is listed, but should have other software): http://www.general-imaging.com/us/service/firmware.html
This should find what you need.
I have the same problem as well. I have had my camera for a bout 2 years. The first time this happened was in March 2007. We had been using regular AA batteries, then we decided to go lithium and bamm! The camera started working. I was elited. Then in the beginning of December 2007, it let me take one last picture and then it wouldn't come on again. The lithiums wouldn't even work. We recently took it to a camera shop and they suggested the same as the other posts. I think it would be cheaper just to buy another camera and I think there should be a recall on this camera, if there are so many other customers having the same issue. I really did enjoy it while it lasted, though.
