Re: Extension Flash connector terminal

You would use the Extension Flash connector terminal along with the optional flash bracket "FL-BK01" and bracket cable "FL-CB01" so that you can use the Olympus FL-40 dedicated flash. With the use of bracket cable "FL-CB04", you can use another brand extension flash.

Why commlite macro extension tube does not work with d5100

Not sure, but if you shoot in manual mode and use manual focus the camera should still take photos. Kind of defeats the purpose of spending money on auto focus ones though. Try to turn the top dial on the camer to M (manual) see what happens?

Flash will not fire

Make sure you are in a mode that supports the flash and also make sure the flash was not disabled. There are ways to make the flash "not" fire on purpose when the camera would normally use the flash.

Settings that must be set before... the external flash feature

Yes, set the camera mode dial to P, A/S/M or any shooting mode except the movie mode. Turn on the extension flash unit's power then select the camera's flash mode. The flash mode button on the camera controls the built-in flash as well as the extension flash. Only the built-in flash and the Olympus FL-20/FL-40/FL-50 extension flash can use the red-eye reduction flash mode. All flash units can use the fill flash, flash off, and slow-sync flash modes.
