Question about Olympus FE-230 Digital Camera

2 Answers

Zoom my camera isnt an olympus FE - 230 digital camera, its a kodak M836, i can look at my pictures okay, but i cant take any, as when i turn it on to take a picture the lens goes out, and then back it and it switches off. it is nothing to do with the battery as i have charged it several times. - my dad thinks that it goes back in because there is some sand inside (as we recently went on a beach holiday) and that the sand is stopping the zoom from coming out all the way, so it goes back in, although i can not hear any sand, i can see small grains. is this the reason? what should i do?

    thanks 'freetek',
but i really dont think it is the batteries, it doesnt even take batteries, its chargable, and i can also view pictures fine too. im just not 100% convinced that it is the sand.

    but thanks anyway

TIPS:
1.)NEVER PUSH THE LENS IN AFTER CAMERA DIES, BUY A NEW BATTERY IMMEDIATLY AND TURN IT BACK ON, CLOSING THE LENS!

2.)NEVER USE AN AC ADAPTER, USE A RECHARGEABLE BATTERY OR A REGULAR BATTERY!

..to fix this...

Do as i say..

1.) Remove battery
2.) Remove front plate (screw driver may be needed)
3.) Check all gears, make sure they are correctly fitted in place)
4.) Move the gear manually to make the lens come out.
5.) keep it out, put the front plate back together.
6.) reinsert the battery, turn it on.

or...
1.) Remove the battery.
2.) Wait about 6-8 hours.
3.) Reinsert the battery.

or...
1.) Remove the battery.
2.) Try hooking it up through AC adapter, put correct voltage.
3.) Try turning it on.
4.) Remove AC adapter, reinsert battery.
5.) Turn it on.
If nothing happens just tell me..

Hope this may help;

If the batteries are a common type, install them into another device to see if they really are still OK or buy a cheap digital multimeter or battery tester.
The latter can be bought at the chain hardware stores or Radio Shack and draw some current to lightly test the load capabilities of them.

These batteries do fail to a short; NICads are the worst but lithium ion and NiMh can fail as well.
The 'sand' diagnosis may be right but what you describe could still be only batteries.

Problem with my Olympus FE-230

When I turn my camera on, the lens goes in and out a few times. Once it's finally on and I look at the screen, everything is blurry. When I take the picture, it's blurry too. If I try to use the zoom to adjust, the lens starts going in and out all crazy and won't adjust right.

Zoom lense wont retract

The problem you are describing is a problem with something in the lens assembly of the camera. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.

http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_servicerepair.asp

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $73.85 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

I have had the same problem with my Kodak Z812 IS. It is caused by a bad image sensor, a costly repair unless it is still under warranty. Does it happen mostly with macro photos?

reset the camera and try taking pictures using by soft pressing the shutter instead of a hard press... on digital cameras, hard fast pressing will cause the picture quality to be not as good
