Colors are not printing properly there is no red even thou cartridge is new brother MFC640CW

all printers are to be clean regularely .
your printer should have a cleaning system included in the program that came with the printer .
try to look through the program and manage the cleaning process .
the nozzle get blocked after use and this is why you need to run the cleaning program

Brother mfc 5840 won't print clearly

you need to check the maintainence kit and see if it's full. Also if it isn't, use some iso-proponal alcohol and some q-tips to clean the print section of the cartridge and the cartridge tray.

I have changed all the ink cartridges on my Brother MFC5440CN it

Light/faint prints usually are a result from clogged ink or air bubbles between the cartridge and print head (thus changing cartridge wont fix problem). Try printing the test page print from the machine (Ink Management -> set/ok twice). Answer the question(s) in the display and repeat this up to five times. The colors should be improved after 1-3 test prints usually.

Changed all 4 cartridges, yellow, red, grey not printing. Only blue & black print

Sounds like most of the color lines (the "cables" between print head and cartridges) either have clogged ink in them, or air bubbles. Try the cleaning process found by pressing Ink Management and then Menu/Set twice. After the test print sheet is printed, answer the question(s) in the display and print up to five test prints by answering the questions.
It should solve the problem, but if it doesn't, you should perform a heavier duty purge found in the service mode.

Brother MFC5440CN - Yellow cartridge does not print despite being

Print head will have to be replaced. Whenever one or more colors won't print and you've gone through the cleaning process, the printhead is bad!

Red Menace

Try unplugging the printer for about ten to fifteen seconds; then replug.

This may clear the printer's memory about the low magenta. I had a similar thing with yellow, and when I replugged it stopped complaining about the yellow and told me that my cyan was out, and magenta low. I replaced the cyan, and voila! I can print!
