I replaced the black ink cartridge which was out with a refill. now it acts like it doesnt recognize the filled cartridge and keeps saying to replace the cartridge. there is a red error light on. i tried the pushing 5 buttons at once and that did not work. i have replaced the cartridges with refills several times before and never had a problem,.
Turn the printer off.
Hold down the Stop, B&W, and the Color buttons.
Press the ON button.
The LCD screen should flash 3 times.
Release the Stop, B&W and Color buttons
Press the Color button again.
Then turn the printer off and back on.

Black printer ink in HP Printer may fail to be recognized by the printer. Most times an error message will be sent indicating that something is wrong with the black print cartridge. Sometimes the printer may accept to print with the black ink, but the printouts may have horizontal lines and very illegible letters. In such a case a manual cleaning of the print head should be carried out. I have refilled my cartridges many, many times. A messy job, but well worth the savings. Never over fill, handle carefully.
The printer will give an error message, but just press cancel, do not order a new cartridge, Your refilled cartridge will work on the lexmark x5470. Good luck.

Dear lim, Here a solution for you. The cartridge of this printer has memory chip that store ink level data inside. Once the cartridge is empty we cannot restore ink level data to be full. To continue using refilled cartridge you need to deactivate ink level detection function first. Perform this step: when the message 'The following cartridge cannot be recognized' appears press Resume/Cancel button. Do this for each cartridge you refill;if you refill both black & colour cartridge do this tip two times (once for each cartridge). Please rate this as fixya ok. Regards,
Take the black ink cartridge back to the person who refilled it. The Microchip that's on the cartridge was not reset properly that's why the printer is returning that error.
You can try some steps before you take it to them to verify it. 1: reseat (take out and put back in) the cartridges into place 2: buy another black cartridge just to check if it will be recognized by the printer, if it does recognize it we know the cartridge is defective. If a new cartridge is also not recognize, start to check your warranty option with the manufacturer...
The reason why the printer says supply expired because the ink cartridge has its own warranty. When the warranty of the ink cartridge has expired then you will get that message. Eventhough you refill it. You need to replace the ink cartridge itself.
