This a typical symptom of a dirty video head. People get confused because there is no sound. You see most of all VCR's are designed to mute the sound till the picture is OK. So as soon as you clean the video head using a cleaning tape and get a good picture on the screen you won't get any sound.

Head alignment

Tracking controls for VHS should have no effect on the DVD player. If a pre-recorded DVD is distorting the picture, along with the VHS, then there's either something wrong with the TV it's played on, or the connection, between the two. Or there is a fault in the electronics of the VHS/DVD combi that deals with the picture.

No capture picture from VCR - honestech VHS to DVD 3.0 SE

VHS to DVD 3.0 software.

In Options Menu, configure as follows:

Video: AV to USB
Audio Device: XX(AV to USB)
Format:DVD
Video Type: NTSC
Quality: Best
Split Size: choose GB.
Output folder: xxxxxxxx

Click OK, then play VHS, then press record button, then after finishing press stop.

Important: tolerate the image cannot be previewed so if you only hear sound then after sopping recording and playing it in another videoplayer you will be able to watch it. ; )

Toshiba 26AV502U (new) video dropout if VHS tapeis not perfect

Had problem checked by local outfit called "Circuit Pro"; their analysis was compatibility.
Actual answer was that the Toshiba required a better quality input from "any" VHS source.
I finally took a "less than perfect" VHS tape with me when I returned the Toshiba TV to the store and demonstrated the problem to one of the TV sales people. He played the VHS tape through a display VHS/DVD player to three different brands of TV. The picture was often "black screen" on a Toshiba, but was merely poor quality on the other two brands. I upgraded to a Sony KDL26M4000 from the Toshiba 26AV502U.

Tapes not playing

Hey do the tapes play at all? sometimes some tapes recorded
on other machines won't play on others. maybe you need to adjust the tracking on the VCR you are playing it on. If the tape
was recorded on a VCR that is misaligned it might not play back
on another VCR. Also the tape may have been recorded on a
super VHS VCR in et (extended definition) mode if so they won't play on just any VCR. If the picture looks scrambled like a
premium channel on analog cable then it's probably recorded in et.
and if its recorded on super VHS tape it may eject out of your VCR.
They don't make these S-VHS vcrs anymore but people still
have them around. There is also Digital VHS they're not
compatible with VHS either. A VHS recorded in et mode will
play on some more expensive vcrs it should say so on the box
or instructions.

Used a wet VHS cleaner and now my VCR doesn't work right. Help!!

The VHS cleaning cassette possibly deposited fiber in the heads in the drum. You may need to open the cabin and examine the heads and the mechanism for foreign matterial.
