Question about Technics Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have 2 Technics Sl-1210 MkII's and one of them spins too fast sometimes when I hit the start/stop button. It doesn't do it all the time but it's getting more frequent. Pressing the 33/45 buttons or moving the pitch control doesn't do anything. It's spinning at what I guess is the max speed for the motor. Please help! Thanks

Cd doesn' ingage like it should and doesn't move properly

Well, it's a turntable, so cd's win't work. But in general you can say that if he just takes the cd inside ans spin for a while, the laser is just dirty. When he spins only for a sec with a good cd and throws it out or doesn't spin at all, your unit is dead .

Hi there, i just bought 2 Technics mkii

well" for a start, they need to go into a phono socket, this amplifies them.
i take it you bought 2 decks with the intentions of mixing, so you gonna need a mixer.
1.decks into phono channels 1&2
2. black GROUND wires, go to GND screw on back of mixer
3. RCA master / booth Outputs on mixer to AUX / LINE-IN on amp.(not phono)

you might try lifting the platter off and putting a drop or two of light machine oil on the spindle. cleaning the motor might help also.

Technics Sl-1210 MkII spins backwards

As the turntable was hit hard then an internal inspection should be done to look for signs of phyical damage. It could be anything from broken parts to bad soldering or a crack on the PC board. I rather suspect it should be obvious what got damaged when you look inside.

No, this has nothing to do with the fuses. The problem lies with one or a combination of faulty IC's (integrated circuits). More than likely IC201 (Turntable Control IC), but IC101 (Turntable Drive) and IC301 (Pitch Control IC) will also cause this sort of issue.

Also take a look at R213, it generally gets very hot, and you can tell by looking at it and seeing discoloration, and might be the starting point to this mess. It's good to replace this as well, while your at it - however, it is no longer available from the manufacturer, so you'll have to match up the rating for it. In addition, take a look at Q2 and Q3 (Regulators), those also tend to burn out at the same time.

Good luck.

Technics sl 1210 will not start up

did you ever open the turntable. It sounds like the on/off switch is bad. Remove the platter and screws with a phillips screw driver and just make sure the connections are in place. make sure you disconnect the power first. let me know what happens afterwards.
