What you want to check on first is the battery of the laptop, it is best if you remove the battery, plug the charger in and see if it will have the same issue, if yes, then there is a possibility that the power board is smoked.

please check the link below for the possible things to do.

if you did not have the same issue, there is a possibility that the battery of your laptop is already expired or have gone out. and replaceing it will be the best move.

Laptop shutting off every few minutes

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

I press the power button, CPU fan comes on for a few seconds then off. No video even from external monitor. Cpu slowly becomes warm and fan comes on to cool it. This continues but no video.

Welcome to Fixya

Sound like LCD problem. Try to drain the electorstatic charge of the board for this sometimes the cause of no display while computer is turned on. I wrote a tip on how to do this. Please click here.
If this will not work then you have a bad LCD there and needs to be repaired.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Try replacing the power supply - I had a similar problem that was fixed that way. If that doesn't work, it's probably the motherboard itself. The CPU is also possible - have you overclocked it or otherwise cooked it? Is the CPU cooler/fan blocked with fluff, or has the fan been slow (or stopped) - noisy fan is a sign of bearing stiffness/partial seizure which slows the fan and lets the CPU get too hot. If the CPU is fried, you get the symptoms you describe (MB won't start the PS)

This sounds like a overheating problem (a CPU thermal shutdown).
This is caused by a faulty fan or the heat-sink and fan is clogged with dust. Check the fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the faulty fan. Check the fan/heatsink assembly and remove/vacuum the dust from these components.

Hi my laptop will turn off suddenly even though it is plugged

it may be shutting off due to thermal shutdown... basically the fan isn't keeping the cpu cool enough... check to make sure the fan is running and that the fan/cpu heatsink is clear of dust and dirt.
