Yes the ISO sensitivity can be adjusted. The settings are, Auto, 64, 100, 200 and 400. Various scene modes will automatically adjust the ISO to compensate for the lighting conditions under which you are shooting.

You have the ISO Setting set too high. This is the setting that in a film camera was called 'film speed'. The higher the ISO, the better it will take pictures in low light. Yours may be set to 3,800 ISO, when it needs to be on 200 or 400. The light during the day is bleaching out the sensor and that is what you are seeing on the screen. Also the higher the ISO, the more grain you will see in images.

How do I change the iso on my nikon coolpix p50 camera?

First of all, you need to be out of the point&shoot modes. Those modes are designed to let you point the camera and shoot, with very little control over the resulting picture besides the framing and timing.

ISO sensitivity is in the Shooting menu. Rotate the mode dial to P, M, or Hi ISO, then press the MENU button. Use cursor-up/down to select "ISO Sensitivity".

What is the ISO

The letters ISO on your digital camera settings refer to the film speed. Even though your camera is most likely not film at all, but rather digital, the ISO setting still does has the same function as older film cameras. ISO determines how sensitive the image sensor is to light.

My pictures are dark even with the flash

The ISO (sensitivity) is set too low, like 200 ISO.
Change the ISO setting to 3200, or maximum just to see if pix become very light.

Normally, you might want to keep it around 800 ISO.

Put in new alkaline batteries to test the flash. Don't use rechargeables or "heavy duty" for this test.

How do i change ISO/ASA on the nikon N65?

The ISO is automatically set by the DX code on your film canister - if there is no code, the camera sets ISO 100. If you load canisters yourself with, say ISO 400 film, you can adjust the exposure using the exposure compensation button at the top right side of the LCD ( " +/- " ). Using ISO 400 film set the +/- to minus 2 ( -2 ) so that it will UNDEREXPOSE 2 stops since the film is 2 stops ( 4X ) more sensitive than ISO 100 film.
