Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. . Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Hello
On the back of the router is a small button,hold it in with a pen tip or paper clip for 60 sec.
This will reset it to factory defaults.

Then you can log in as admin
password= admin
username= admin
Once in you can make your changes again.

Can't access 192.168.1.1

Most of the NETGEAR devices, except ReadyNAS products and Fully Managed switches, have the following default username and password:
  • Username = admin
  • Password = password
    • For older devices, password = 1234
If you have changed the default password and have forgotten the password, you may need to reset the NETGEAR device to factory default settings.
Reset for most routers with a reset button on the rear panel
Write down configuration information such as IP addresses, security keys, opened ports and services, etc., that you modified. (The default username is admin and the password is either password or 1234. Try these before resetting the router.)
  1. Press the reset button on the back until the test light blinks. This takes about 10 seconds. (To avoid accidental resets, the small button is recessed. Use a pen or paperclip to access it.)
  2. Release the button.
  3. Wait for the router to reboot.
  4. Log in with the default password. If the router configuration was not cleared, try these additional steps AFTER the router has finished rebooting.
  5. Unplug the router's power.
  6. Press and hold the reset button. While the button is held down, reconnect router's power.
  7. Continue to hold the reset button for 20 seconds after reconnecting the power.
  8. Wait for the router to reboot.
  9. Log in with the default password.
Or you will need to update the firmware to rest the router.

My laptop does not receive the router signal. The

Can you get other signals that are not your own?

If yes:
Reset the router back to factory default settings by using the tiny
reset button on the back/bottom.

If no:
Make sure your wireless card is turned on. Make sure you can see it in device manager.

Wireless connection

Access the routers admin page with the hardwired pc.  http://*gateway*  right click network status on pc and get gateway.  Google the model you have for the default passwords.  Setup your wifi security then do the same to your laptop and attempt to connect again.  Bad settings somewhere.

Encrypted access

I'm guessing you left it at the default IP address of 192.168.1.1 and you go there using Internet Explorer and are asked for username and password. Is that right? The default username is blank and default password is "admin" with no quotes. If the defaults were changed then that won't do you any good. Your only recourse then would be to hit the reset button on the back of the router and hold if for a few seconds (briefly hitting it does not do a full reset, you need to hold it for a few seconds). This will restore the router to it's factory defaults and the address/password above should work.

I hope this helps. I don't get paid for this, I just like to help when I can. If you found this useful I hope you will give a positive rating. If this did not help I hope you'll ask additional questions.

Good luck and thank you.
