Currenly Sony TV and Palystation only supports videos in MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MP4, WMV, ASF, DivX HD.
In order to play MKV on Sony TV, we had better convert MKV to Sony TV compatible format.
This tv will not play , wmv, avi, mov, mkv, or divx, the hitachi uses the xvid codec only, which means your video file types must be mp4, and not the h.264 mp4 either....but true mp4 video, if you have a connected usb drive full of movies, best bet is to download "youtube downloader" (free off the internet) install it to your PC, and use the convert feature to convert your movies to the ipad video mp4 setting, with the "same as original " quality ticked....and convert all your movie files to the xvid codec your tv wants, youtube downloader can convert anything, any filetype even flash. trust me this works 100% i know, i have the Tv, and i do know about codecs and scaling..and metadata....do this will be your best bet guys !!! happy viewing

First of all, you can't rotate a video without some expensive software installed on your computer and even then, the results will be poor at best. Download Quicktime from Apple to play your video...it's a free download.
The VLC and FFDshow both use the free Libavcodecs I suggest using MediaInfo from sourceforge by Jerome Martinez to find out the actual codec that has been used then search google for the installer for the specifed codec.
I understand, if you are able to record on the SD card, make your computer to recognize it and lastly if you can transfer it successfully with no errors, we can make it to work by choosing an appropriate media player. I personally would recommend VLC player. Latest version of this software can be found in: www.filehippo.com Still if you are not able to open/run the media file. Let me know the type of file. I ll then according do a research and suggest a specific codec or a player that will support the file type. File type can be found be right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties.
