IM7 docking cradle

The docking cradle on the iM7 was pulled open instead of being pushed to open. The cradle will not close now. The unit still plays fine but you have to tilt the unit to read the i-pod.

Hmmmmm. Need a new plastic door catch for my beloved IM7. I live in the UK. Searching around, it looks as if the company now providing these is called Digi-Key electronics, a US company. I've just been in touch with them and requested a sample but they tell me it is a non-stock item and I need to order 500 of them at the princely sum of 375 USD!! Lol. Don't think so. As it happens, the dock itself still works fine even if the door won't close but I'd like to fix it if it's possible. Anyone think of a way round this? What pc did you pinch the latch from?

I also had my latch broken. I called the latch manufacturer and they sent me a "sample" pack of latches since you can only buy in large quantities; so I now have ten of them. I love my IM7 and will be happy to share my latches if anyone needs one.

Hi, just wondering if someone could help me with this problem as well, or with a spare latch. The solution using a clasp from a computer case sounds like it could work also. Has anyone else tried it with success? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks. - Don - thatbloke@gmail.com

After much searching on the internet for a replacement clip/clasp part, and not finding anything, I realized that I had an old desk-top computer case from Fry's Electronics that has two plastic doors on the front of it that use the same clasp part to hold them shut. I was able to remove the broken clasp from the IM-7 using a small pair of pliers and a very small flat-head screwdriver, and pop the used part in from the computer case, and it works perfectly. It's literally the same part. Not only that, but I have one more clasp to use should this one break as well. Hope this helps. -- Mike

I've found a solution. The latch is the black piece of plastic behind the door with a claw sticking out. Most likely you have broken the catch inside this part so it needs replacing but don't worry, it's relatively easy to do.
1. First, email the manufacturer and and ask for a sample latch to be sent out to you. After a bit of research I finally found them. In the UK they make them in white so I ordered one of those as I think it looks better (part #DL1WH): http://www.richco-inc.com/component/jumi/search-parts.html?searchinit=true&searchtype=rohs&interest=DL-1&Submit3=Submit
2. Get a pair of thin pliers and carefully pull out the old latch. To do this pull on on any part of the outer rim. I used the lower edge. Don't worry of you damage it. You'll be throwing it away anyway. Just don't damage any of your speakers.
3. Slide the new latch into position and push into place.
4. That's it. All fixed!

In the US Richco, Inc. http://www.richco-inc.com/
Door Latch and Striker in the online catalogue (DL/DLS)
The latch is DL-1X on page 63 as of 9/11/2012
Thank you all for the help.
PS. at the bottom of the page on the Richco online catalogue it says,
"For free samples visit www.richco-inc.com"
I'll post again if they come through with a 10 pack of "samples" like they did for bourge and Don Wong.

Follow-Up: Richco, Inc. comes through !!

  • Fultronics Sep 27, 2012

Richco (US) initially said there was a 4 week lead time on the part that I would be sent a sample when they became available. 2 weeks and 2 days later I've received a dozen DL-1X samples. Constact me if you need 1. I'll try **** Wong's needle nose plier technique and let you know how it goes. Thanks !

For some reason I can't post my email, but it's my username at live dot com

  • Fultronics Sep 28, 2012

I uses a pair of needle nose pliers to replace the latch last night. I was able to pull the old latch by maneuvering the pliers over the top of the opened dock door. It came in pieces, but eventually pulled away cleanly. As Don W. stated, the rim or collar to the old latch assembly was out far enough for me to grab. I pusehd a new latch into place with my relatively big fingers. There was an audible "click" as it went into its final position. I am so psyched to have a fully functional Ipod boom box again. Gratitude to bouge and Don Wong.

My Oreck XL upright vacuum is blowing air instead of sucking air.

I've solved the problem! I had exactly the same problem, with dust being sucked up properly and then some blown out where the bag connects. The XL machine has a hinged plastic dock for the bag, which slides in the dock and you then close the hinge, there's a slight click and the velcro keeps it shut. The problem is that the plastic dock is not behind the ridge, but is in front. So when you start up the bag connection is pushed forward. So:
Undo zipper, open dock hinge and push it back squeezing the panel on the cloth bag. One side will go behind the ridge and you need to push it firmly, opening it a bit if you can. It will go behind that ridge all the way round. You'll see now that the dock is firmly in place, and can be hinged closed as you did before. But instead of the joint being loose, the bag is now tight.
Mine now works fine... thanks to fixya for encouraging me to fix it! I was close to binning the machine. But it sucks well, and I don't go for bagless... like my dirt packaged for disposal. And if you're a farmer, try farmideas.co.uk !!!!

  1. Contact Altec Lansing.
  2. twist the Speaker frame anticlockwise to open then unscrew the speaker then look for a similar/something close to it(size and amps) one in the local audio shop.
  3. Get it to some audio shop for a recoil and or diaphram change.

I posted on this myself looking for solutions, and then discovered the solution my self. The base pin connectors at the bottom of the receiver apparently become loose, and in order to make a good connection you need to push/pull the top of the receiver forward to achieve a connection. In the car cradel, I do this by jamming something between the receiver and cradel at the top to force and hold it forward). In the home base, I pull it forward at the top, and prop it that way with something heavy behind it. No one ever posted on how to take the unit apart and actually fix the loose connection.
