Black light & print cartridge light is blinking. I changed the black cartridge but did not change the color cartridge cause I never use color. Both are in the printer. Black Light is blinking and check print cartridge. The color cartridge may be empty. Do I have to buy & put a full color cartridge in the printer even though I will never use it ?

Unfortuantely , to solve the issue , sadly, yes you will have to replace the empty cartridge to continue to use the printer in a normal fashion. Its a sneaky and dirty trick many printer manufactuers do to make more money off of the customer through the purchase of printer ink.

Even though the interface says the cartridge is full, if the printer detects it being empty, odds are you will have to replace the color cartridge, even though you are only printing black.
You can try taking the cartridge out and cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser and reseat the color cartridge. If no change, replace the cartridge.

Just put new color cartridges in and tested print and it showed all color bars however when i ask it to print it does not print out anything in black

You didn't say what brand/model of printer you are using, but a lot of printers nowadays have a color cartridge(s) and a separate black cartridge. Perhaps the black cartridge needs to be replaced, too?

Changing ink default to BLACK

Not possible.
Epson uses the black cartridge mostly, but also adds color to the black printing in order to keep the color inks from drying in the print jets on the printhead.
They also make lots of money that way...

===sorry===

Cannot print with only one cartridge

The inkjet printers are designed to print wit BOTH cartridges installed. You cannot fool it to print with only one.

You may try and change the setting in the printer and fax option in the control panel.

change printing preferences to Fast Draft this will help you to save ink catridges.

I've recently installed my black ink cartridge and nothing happens when I try to print out. I've removed the sticker and checked all troubleshooting problems, and when I try to print, it comes out blank....

As this is a printer problem as opposed to a PC problem, we are in need of additional information. Please provide info regarding the printer model as well as the PC. Was this a routine cartridge change, and have you done it before with no negative consequence? Is the printer new or how old is it, and how old is the cartridge?

As you indicate black cartridge, it sounds as though this is a color printer. Have you tried to print a color document? Go to your printer settings and make sure it is set to print in color; then choose some color page (even this web page) and attempt to print it. If the color prints and the black doesn't, it is a bad cartridge.

It is also interesting that you mention the USB cable being attached. Do you have reason to believe the PC and printer are not communicating? If so, go to the Control Panel (Windows) and check your Printers to see if the printer is listed there. Check all the windows for status and any indication of an issue. If it is not listed, there could be a problem with either the cable, the USB port, or an intermediate piece of software.

If this information assists you in resolving the problem, please take a moment to rate the solution at a "FixYa" level. If you do not feel that you can rate at a "FixYa", please post back with more information regarding what has occurred subsequently, as well as responding to the questions posed above, and I will gladly help you until we have reached a definitive solution.Thank you for using and rating FixYa!

I am out in black

As far as I can tell, your printer model does not support color to black printing. Sorry.

The best I can suggest would be for programs like word or excel, etc.. to change everything that is black, to a dark blue.
