Question about Krups Small Appliances Espresso Machine

Open Question

Need to replace the heating element on a Krups Model 136 Coffee Maker. It is leaking. Machine is 18 years old, but going like a trooper and I hate to throw out an otherwise perfectly good machine. Heating element part No(?) is RK TYP 47696. 120V, 850W. Also has the following stamped into it: C16010. Also in much smaller font is stamped the following: 46593/RKVI.

SOURCE: my Krups 4000 Expresso machine while still heating

I had the same problem. The issue was that the machine needed a clean to dissolve Calcium build up from the water. I used a commercial cleaner available at my local supermarket but have since used white vinegar and get just as good results. I just put about a cup of white vinegard in the water haopper and run the machine without the group attatched. I run the steamer wand and then put another cup through with the group attatched . I then rinse a few times with fresh bottled or distilled water.

SOURCE: A Krups KM7005 coffee maker/grinder doesn't heat or drip water .

Mine had the same problem ... all the lights are on, grinding works fine, but no heat on the plate, and no dripping of water.

After a weekend on the workbench, I mastered this machine. The KM7005 has 2 x MicroTemp G4 thermal cutoff (TCO) fuses which interrupt the Live line, for overheat protection. Mine didn't overheat per se, but the TCO blew anyway. Not reset-able ... need to be replaced with a soldering iron. To date, I have helped 13 people on this site fix this exact problem.

I'll be happy to advise you to fix this, or fix it for you. Write me at KM7005@flightsystems.biz.

Heat the cup before you use it, run hot water over it, or boiling water. The machine does not make very hot coffee otherwise.

Heating element wont turn on

Hello ches... when this happens your choice is to replace the heating element or replace the coffee maker. IF the coffee maker is three years old or more, seriously consider a replacement. IF you want to consider a repair go to searspartsdirect.com to get the part and an excellent diagram of how the parts go together. Have your model number ready as you will be asked to enter that. Most likely your power module failed. Mine went bad after 18 months of operation. You can order a replacement power module and control module from a Krups service center or from SmallApplicance.com. The replacement is not easy since you have to disconnect all the electrical connections. The module is about $60. I don't know how much the service center will charge to replace it.

Krups kp 2000 water leak

I had the same thing happen. It turned out that the rubber hose connecting the water reservoir to the heating element had disconnected, probably due to grinding vibration. I found a triangular screw driver to open the coffee maker up at MicroCenter: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0332974
After removing the bottom of the coffee maker, the repair took 1 minute and it is brewing coffee again like new!

if you still have the receipt, you can get it repair or replace under the warranty, unless the warranty is for 90 days. in that case you are toast.
time for a new one.
replacing the parts is half the price of a new one.

Your brewer has a 3 year warranty. If you will call customer service with the model and code date and it is less than 3 years old, we will replace it with a new machine at no cost. If it is over 3 years old, we will replace it at a reduced price.

Krups water level problem

I have the Krups FMF5 Gives a 'low water alarm' when it's full of water. Take a cheap multimeter from Wal-mart find which themal fuse on the heating element doesn't have continuity. Should be two of them on the unit, one on each side of the silver 'U' shaped element, They are covered in a white sleeve, with a metal retainer holding it to the element. They connect to the power wires White one and Black one going to the element. Mine was a SEFUSE rated for 214 degrees C, Less than $2.00 at Radio Shack I replaced it with a 226 degree C rated SEFUSE which is better than removing it entirely. (it is a safety fuse) I reused the old crimps holding it to the wires, Don't know if solder would hold up. Works like a charm.

Leaking from the water Chamber

The Krups heats the water through a horseshoe shaped aluminum tube which the heating element is wrapped around the tube in the same fashion, the tube is corroded or cracked most likely, if you poured cold water into the machine when it was hot, this will crack the tube, they are made by Cesod ? which is stamped on the element with a number on it,  and I have seen between 700 and 1100 watt elements. I have the same problem with my 7 year old krups coffee maker, Im trying to repair the tube with aluminum welding or find a new element.  It could also be the high temp tubing may be cracked.  You need tamper proof Torx bits to remove the bottom cover on some models.
