My computer does the same thing, except it rarely charges even when it is off. At first we got a new power cord and it worked better for about a month, then it stopped working again.

I think I got a similar problem. When I plug the adpter it doesnt work well. I have to be moving the cord around till I see the screen light up bright. I have to move it constantly or else it will not charge my battery. The problem is, this is the second cord I get and it works great for about 5 months and then it does the same thing. Its weird, I cant take it nowhere cause I have to keep the cord still so it wont move. If anyone knows what I can do, id appreciate your help/advice. thank you.

I have the same problem. I am on my 3rd power cord. My first one worked for about a year, my second one lasted for maybe 5 months and the one I currently have only lasted like 7 months.

I think its a problem with the chargers they use for this laptop becuase this computer is great in every other way...

I get the same blinking on and off while it is plugged into the wall- the blinking is it changing from ac to batters.

It never charges completely and always drains while I am using it.

Laptop will not charge. After wiggling the cord

That's a short in the power input section of the motherboard- I've found, much to my dismay, that the power input/charging circuit on these laptops is not a separate circuit board as it is on some other models, but is a small area of the motherboard itself. You'll either need to have someone repair the motherboard or replace it entirely.

Gateway Laptop W340UA black screen

  1. take out the memory
  2. turn on again without memory (you should hear long beep sound) and turn it off again
  3. clean memory using eraser (better if you have spare memory to replace it)
  4. now try again
  5. if not working, checks whether the work properly? and clean the fan from dust. and try to switch it on again.
I look forward to hearing further.

Charger makes my screen dark

GO into the control panel and check your power settings. You might have it set to use less power when plugged in.

Gateway 7405 battery and charge problems

This sounds like a problem with the charging circuit on the board.
There could be a problem with the power jack:
They are available but will require disassembly and probably some soldering to replace.
It might be best to try another MB if you can find one cheap. Like this:

Sounds like you have a bad motherboard. Bad mother boards give alot of different signs and 1 is no screen display. If it was a a bad HD you would still see something on the screen
