In order to take closed-up pictures you need to use Macro mode. It is possible to zoom through all ranges from telephoto to wide down to a minimum distance of 8 inches.

My camera won't focus when I'm trying to take a picture of something close up.

Try taking pictures of close-ups at 14mm setting on 14-42mm or buy the close-up lens that you can use on the filter ring of your zoom lenses lenses.

My VistaQuest VQ DV800HD camcorder's close up pictures are blury.

What's your definition of "close up"?
Sorry to say its a very cheap camera. It will not focus on anything under 3 feet. It's called a fixed focal camera. Anything beyond 3 feet should be fine.

How to take close-up pictures ?

Look for a button or setting that looks like a small flower. If there is one on your camera it will set up for close ups to about 7 inches. When done press the button again to clear the setting. The button may cycle through several different settings so you may have to press it multiple times to access the close-up mide.

80% of the picture is black

Ok, if the video is present around the outside of the black box you have a problem with close captioning. It is stuck in either Text 3 or Text 4 mode. The options for close captioning are CC1, CC2, Text 1, Text 2, Text 3 and Text 4 and of course OFF. Apparently the close captioning is stuck on or is not being properly shut off. Better read the owners manual to see if you are missing a step when turning off close caption.

I am not getting good close-up pictures!!

I wish you have explained more about what you mean by close-ups. If you are talking about portraits: ...avoid flash - use some type of dim portable lamps ...use the optical zoom set to about 2X .....move back and reframe the subject ...set the camera to "aperture priority" and f2.8 (to blur the background) If you are talking about table top photography: ...avoid flash - use some type of bright .....portable lamps ...use a tripod ...set the camera to shutter priority and select a .....slow shutter speed (to increase depth of field) ...focus on the exact spot you want to be sharpest
