Question about Toshiba MW27F51 27 in. TV/VCR/DVD Combo

2 Answers

Toshiba MW27F51 We have had this television for about 2 years...it is still under warranty. The other day the picture began to flicker. We thought that maybe it was the cable, but after turning that off, we realized that it was the actual tv. Is this common in this tv and could there be a wire loose? It's a pretty annoying problem. Any help would be great! Thanks

If it is still under Warranty, take it to an ASC for repair.

There could be a number of reasons for that. The High Voltage (Flyback) could be loose or going bad. only and experienced tech wouls wanna go in there because of the high voltage that needs to be discharged. Or a cracked circuit board or cold solder connection could cause this.

Has sound but no picture

It likely is one of two issues if a conventional set: either no high voltage--or if someone looks in the neck of the picture tube--the filaments are not lit--and that would be fairly easy for repairs.

IN each case someone who knows some basic things would have to open set and do some tests.

I have a Toshiba TV/DVD/VCR combo model # MW27F51-had it for a couple of years. Turned it on, have sound but no picture. I have the cover off the back of it now.

sound like a defective part inside the set. i could tell you what one went bad, this is not user servicable, and could shock you bad. i would take it for service or get a new one. due to the cost of these against the cost of repair.rule of electronics-if the cost of repair is 60% of a new one you should not repair it. good luck! hope this helps!

Bottom left corner, red part of the picture is making an arch

11 years old, you may need a new one, as service can be costly. if the cost of repair is more tha 60% of a new one, get the new one. the fact it is 11years old, makes this an easy choice. good luck.hope this helps..

MY SCREEN IS DARK OR BLANK EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS GOOD JUST NO PIC

Hello fixedopsmike,

There is a fuse in the TV set, if you would like to check and see if it has blown, here is a way you can do it:

1) Unplug the TV's power cord from the wall

2) Take the back off of the TV by removing the screws and slowly removing the back panel.

3) Look for a component that looks like a glass tube with metallic caps on each of the ends, this will be the fuse.

4) Visually inspect the fuse to see if it shows signs of being open (Blown) These signs are burn marks inside of the glass tube, an open conductor (wire) inside of the glass tube, or no visible wire inside of the tube.

5) using a multimeter set to resistance (R x 1) test the fuse for continuity (remove and change the fuse if found to be defective)

6) If the fuse is not bad, reinstall the fuse if removed, put the rear cover back on.

Now at this point we have determined if the problem is a fuse being blown or not, if you replace the fuse and the TV works great the problem is solved, if you replace the fuse and it blows again, or if the fuse was ok to begin with, then you have a problem that will require some knowledge of electronics pass the basics to continue on. At this point I would suggest that you call a qualified TV repair technician to troubleshoot and repair the TV in question.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,
