I have meet a lot of people asking similar question. The answer is absolutely Yes. You can always recover the lost photos from your digital camera even you have formatted the device. Formatting won't make the data in your memory card erased permanently. The pictures you formatted are still in the disk of your memory card, just not accessible right now.

The best way to recover them back is trying some photo recovery programs. A nice one is asoftech photo recovery that helped me before.
http://www.asoftech.com/apr/

This program can deep scan to find your lost photos first and then perform recovery with nice quality. But before your photos are recovered, please don't take more photos in case your lost photo data are overwritten.

Here is the steps you may refer while recover your photos from your camera memory card.

1. Download and install photo recovery program on your computer. Free download from this site:

2. With your memory card inserted, Under "My Computer", note the drive letter assigned to your camera's memory card (usually G: or H:).
3. Start the photo recovery program and select the drive letter that assigned to camera memory card, click "Start".
4. Now the scanning process will start automatically to deep look for the lost pictures. You will then get a list of all recoverable ones. Check if all your pictures are there.
5. Select the pictures you want and click "Next", and you can get back lost photos from camera successfully.

Have you restored all your camera data back?
In fact, your problem was really similar to mine. A couple of weeks ago, the data of my Canon digital camera was also formatted by chance. All my stored photos were lost. But, some of them were really precious for me.
So, in order to get them all back, I had checked many websites and links over the internet. And finally, I found a camera data recovery freeware that had eventually retrieved all my lost photos back.
So, I recommend it to you and hope it can also successfully retrieve all your needed data back:

Note: After the formatting process, I hope you've not saved any new file on the same camera since anything new on it will rewrite your original data and make it gone forever.
You also should learn a lesson to back up all your important data on different drives next time.

If a file is deleted and is not written by further data, then the file has actually been there.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Installed camera back in August, need to download photos, but it says the language is different?? Camera is a ex-z100, I have had no problems before.

I don't know about your software problem, but there is an alternate way to down load most cameras that use SD memory cards. Several stores carry card readers that output to USB connectors. Just remove your SD card , install it in the card reader and plug the card reader into the USB connector on your computer. Your computer should recognize it as just another input,
and you can copy the JPEG picutre to your computer.

Accidental delete of pictures, how to recover

First of all, do not save any new file to camera's memory card.

Take out memory card, and connect it to computer using a card reader. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in Windows Explorer.
Download this photo recovery software
http://www.asoftech.com/apr/
Install and open the photo recovery software, select the memory card, and click 'Start' button.

Problem with taking picture with SD card

The only thing I can recommend is using the brands of memory cards that Casio recommends. They are Panasonic, San Disc, Toshiba. Make sure the card is formatted with the camera before use.
