If the estimation of the main control board is high it is better to buy a new camera with better feaures than to invest on old technology.
So try if you get some benefit from scraping the camera for spares.

Dropped my pentax k100d. Lense is fine, Camera says card locked, will not delete or fire shutter. Sent for repair, was told circuit board was damaged and quoted £306 for repair. Is it possible...

Your best bet is to try a local camera shop and have them fix it. Cameras are dangerous to disassemble yourself because of extremely high voltage electronics that can kill you if you touch the wrong parts. I had a K100D and it's circuits were also fried at one point, so I can sympathize with you. Try taking it to a local shop and seeing if they can beat Pentax's price. Odds are good they will try, but do not attempt this yourself. Even if you could find the parts (which you likely can't) then you will end up better off having it professionally fixed.

Turn Camera off then On Again

it sound like you have damaged the focus part of the lense i am not to sure if you can replace this part as i have never come across this problem with a camera before but the problem could be either the lense focus has become damaged or it could be that a chip on the board has been damaged without taking the camera apart and looking to see if the lense and lense motors can be replaced or do come out their might even be a way of adjusting the lense once the camera is apart to get it back in focus their is nothing you can do yourself as the equipment will cost a fortune to buy. you would need to test the board and all chips and also im sure if your camera can be adjusted you will also need a special tool to do this. i do know on some of the top end cameras you can adjust the focus from inside the camera to bring it back into view but at the end of the day you need to think is it cheaper to repair or to replace also if you take it in to get repaired you might also get problem sources the spares. but at least you know the screen and memory is working fine so it could just be that it need adjusting it is not worth taking the camera apart yourself as their is an order to undo the screws so as not to warp the board also when you put it back together these need to be done in order and torqued up to the right tension else the board will get warped i suggest you take it into a good camera shop and these will tell you of a repairer in your area im sorry but their is nothing you can do yourself witch isnt much help i know but im sure you just need to get the lense auto focus adjusting this will be cheaper than replacing the whole unit at least they can take the cases off and look at it witch i cant do from here so i am advising you the best i can from where i am sorry cant help you more but im sure other experts will tell you the same answer good luck but choose a good camera shop as you are less likely to gut stung on the price of the parts.............................

My sanyo VPC-E760 CAMERA IS SHOWING LENS ERROR 27....THE LENSE WILL NOT GO BACK IN...

Dear sir,

this happens when the clearance for the lense mechanism to open and close is being insufficient due to -small bits of sand or lint that may become get trapped in the mechanism which is commom while taking photos in open dust spaces.

It is advised to take the camera to a camera repair shop and have it disassembled and cleaned,if delayed the problem gets complicated

Yes this can be cleaned with a can of compressed air. but I feel you went above the call of duty here to repair it yourself and I congradulate you for your go getter do it yourself attidude and action. Now you might have to chalk this thing up and get a new camera as once these are cracked open its done unless you now what exactly you are doing, its like a kid in a cookie jar effect..

Sony DSC-V1 Shutter Lense not opening

This digital camera is not worth repairing. 95% of digital cameras can be replaced for less than repairs cost. Best digital camera deals can be found at tigerdirect.com and you will likely find a better camera for less than you paid for this one.

When I turn on my DSC W55 the lens does not open all the way. Is better to fix it or buy a new camera?

It usually cost more to repair digital cameras than investing in a brand new one. Before you decide to trash your camera and buy a new one try this.

Some dirt somhow gets on the outside of the lense and they would prevent the lense from opening or closing 100% as it normally does.

Clean around the lense and turn your camera off and on a few times. If the lense opened out 100%, you should be able to take pictures as you usually did. If NOT

turn on the camera and help the lense to open up by pulling the lense out NOT too hard. If the lense goes up and down you follow the lense motion (up and down and turn). If the lense opened up 100%, then turn the camera on and off a few times, it may work now.

If you have dropped the camera, some mechanical part of the lense mechanism is broken or disslocated. In that case, the lense has to be opend from the camera, inspect for broken parts or loose parts, and clean it up. If you put it back on the camera, it may work. Remember opening the lense is the absolute last thing you want to do. Most likely, you would make it worse than, before opening it.

If you decided to buy a new one and trash this camera, please send the camera to me. I will pay to you ONLY your shipping cost. I would try to fix it and learn more about the problem your lense have. I would be able to help the next person with the same problem better. my email address [email protected].

GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!

Focus error displayed after a drop its one of the finepix range there basicaly all the same

have you tried to gently pull and twist the end of the lense when it is extended?
unfortunatley when these cameras are dropped they can cause the lense to become unaligned and create a focus error if twissting dosent help it would need to be sent away for repair to have the lenses realligned but it wont be covered by warrenty

Lense Cover Stuck

Try blowing lots of compressed air around the open lens shutter to clean the mechanism. Or use a hair dryer for a few seconds (don't want to heat up the camera). Also with the lens barrel extended and pointed downward, tap the lens barrel with a pencil while you extend and retract the lens by powering the camera on and off. A grain of sand in the mechanism is usually the culprit, and you want to try to dislodge it.

You can open it up, but only as a very last resort. The above procedures usually work if you try them enough. But for those particularly nasty stuck mechanisms, here's an example repair on a Canon Powershot A400 (do this at your own risk, and be aware this will void your warranty):
