Pcs 2100 GeeMarie, I'm getting a little tired to doing your "try a new route" uninstall- and reinstall-the-printer game. Each time a different outcome appears, and I must have a quarter of a **** of paper printing out the directions for initializing, as well as the yellow bars to do the job. So far - zilch! Does this mean it's time for me to trash HP printers and get a dependable one? Sorry GeeMarie, I cannot evaluate you at this time - you understand, don't you? samanamamber

HI. That is perfectly alright. The rating is not important. I am doing this just to try to help. I answered so very many questions today, that I honestly don't remember what your problem is. I am sorry, your name just doesn't ring a bell. Sometimes the only thing we can do as a last resort is uninstall and reinstall a printer and sometimes with an updated driver which has to be downoaded.

As far as HP Printers are concerned. I think they are some of the best made. I use them myself and have for many years. I have had some problems but nothing that could not be solved.

You must be so very frustrated at this point. I am so very sorry that I was unable to help you. If you want me to try again, I would be happy to. I couldn't find a prior post, so you would have to start from the beginning. with all of the information:


Your PC make and model & model #
Your Op system
Your printer brand make and model # with any special additions you may have.

And of course, your specific problem, what ocurred before, if anything and how your printer has been running in general. Also, how long you have had it.

My pixma MP 495 worked fine for several years. Then for months it took more time to get started but finally it always did. Now, though the wifi light is on, both computers say the printer is offline.


You can go into device manager, locate the printer, and uninstall it. Turn computer off and reboot. It should reinstall the software - then see if it works. If nada then go the software route.

Try uninstalling all printer software and reinstalling a fresh copy to see what happens.

There might be a problem with the paper sensor. Check the rear portion of the printer where you get the paper out try to open the back of the printer and check if the sensor is working well. Usually it will be stuck and need to be released. And if you can just give a little bang on the back of the printer this may cause the sensor to trip and start working.

After much thrashing, here is the solution to the problem. Somehow the printer drivers lost coordination with the corresponding Windows supporting programs. You would think that reinstalling the printer drivers would fix the problem, AND IT DOES, but there are 3 tricks:

· Uninstall everything associated with this printer with the install disk in the computer (this may really not be necessary, but it worked for me). [This is also the solution when the a window comes up asking for TrayApp to be inserted using a disk—they mean the hp install disk].

· After the un-install, MAKE SURE you ALSO delete the printer using the control panel. This is critical. If this doesn’t happen, the corresponding Windows software is somehow hooked to the wrong thing when the reinstall happens. Then reboot the system.

· Install the new drivers with the printer off, and the USB disconnected from the printer. Reboot the system [not sure the reboot is necessary]. After the computer has booted, connect the USB, and power up the printer. The computer will recognize the printer and put the printer icon in the Control Panel.

It turns out that correcting the driver mis-coordination by BOTH uninstalling the printer drivers and taking the printer out of the control panel, then properly reinstalling solves BOTH the fax problem, and the protection fault problem! Amazing such a little thing can make such a difference!

Does the printer work?
ie can you do a test print via printer keypad??
Is printer "online"

Have you tried different usb cable and port?

Have you unistalled previous driver and the software package before installing complete new downloaded software and driver package from hp to suit

We know how tiring it is dealing with people and their little printers buy a new one or pay someone else to do it for you if it's too hard.

Now you know why they can be too expensive to fix due to time it can take to even diagnose any posible faults.

Epson 2100 printer


Hi, it sounds like you have a print roller error. Make sure nothing is in the path of the print carriage or stuck in the printer anywhere, espically paper. You can do this by looking up inside the printer, in the papaer feeder, and in the printer cartridge install area. Also try unplugging the printer from the wall for about 5min then plugging it back in. If nothing works, you can have an epson techician repair it but it would probably cost more than buying a good used printer or a new one. I can help you find a good used printer or a new one for less if you need to go this route.
