As always I start with the dreaded question. Did you use a refilled cartridge in your printer? If so, remove it and install a new HP cartridge. Recycled cartridges are famous for this type of failure. By the way the error code is a Windows error code. If you haven't found a solution to the " ink system failure " yet, it is quite easy to reset (using the buttons) on HP C7180. You can find the reset instructions on my website: http://www.inkbank.com.au/webcontent21.htm
Try this:
that error means its a ink system failure which is caused by air from the tube.
Reset the system by holding down the OK, Cancel, Black, and Color
buttons down at the same time and turn the printer off. Keep holding the
buttons down until the printer shuts off and the turn it back on. You
will have to turn the printer off twice and then it will recalibrate.
Make sure you have new cartridges in the printer so that it can reset
Reset the system by holding down the OK, Cancel, Black, and Color buttons at the same time and turn the 3310 off. You should keep holding the buttons down until the printer shuts off and then turns itself back on. Turn the printer off twice for the printer to recalibrate. Make sure you have new cartridges in the printer so that it can reset.
I have a Printer problem - "Ink System Failure" - Ink System has failed. Unable to copy, receive faxes, or print. Refer to printer documentation. Error: 0xc18a001". This is what the glass on the left side says. I don't use faxes, so don't care of that. My Son installed an ink system, which of course is a lot cheaper to use, quite some time ago which has been working super. Yesterday the "Ink System Failure" sign came on and my Son was here this morning, but couldn't figure out what is wrong with the printer. I am in Heidelberg, Germany and buy my equipment in the AAFES PX. There is no HP technical service available to us Military people. The Germans won't work on American goods. Is there any hope for me? Thank you.

P.S. I am the Adjutant/Finance Officer of an American Legion Post in Heidelberg and use my color printer extensively. So I am in a bind.
Ink system failures is a very serious problem on HP printer systems. If you have this problem you should be ready to replace your printer. However there are still troubleshooting steps that you can do to try to resolve this problem. try this Ink System Failure Trouble shooting guide.
The Ink waste tank filters are usually change by a technician or the counter can be turned back. The ink waste tank is found at the base of the printer
The OK-cancel-black-color procedure is to be done when turning the printer **OFF** not on.
Then when you turn it back on you'll see "NVRAM RESET" (or something like that) on the display.
It might take a couple of tries.
This is a fix if the problem is not a hardware failure. This same "ink system failure" error also displays if there is a hardware failure and this cannot be corrected with the button/power off technique.
Good luck.
