Question about RCA F32450 32" TV

1 Answer

Screen flickered, burning smell no picture

Opened it up and found a cap or thermistor over by the fuse that was blown in half. Can I find a schematic for this model to find out what blew up?

From the back, power cord goes to circuit board. There is a fuse and a small transformer. This is from the back on the right hand side. The part that blew is in between LB02 and RB02 just to the left of this x-former.

There was a smell of something burning then the picture screen went black. When I press the on/off switch I get a click as if the tv is on but no picture.

You have a bad capacitor. Look for a 250 volt 2.2MF cap..this baby is dry. And check for a 25volt47MF also in the horizontal defelection. If the power fuse [glass fuse clipped into board] is good you can still save this TV. And if you can change the caps near the vertical IC do so, as these are going down!

Same Problem with a twist

This came from the yoke (which is a contained coil of wires slipped over the neck of the picture tube(s)) and is used to adjust purity (of color) - if the picture looks good just dispose of it. The fuse you probably need is a
6.3A 250VAC GMA fuse - Google it to find a supplier near - I usually use a
7A 250VAC GMA fuse

Zenith A32B41W Ground

The 1000pF 2KV caps in the Zenith sets are notorious for burning up. I have seen it many, many times. The ground "plate" you describe is a dual spark gap, between the tuner ground and each side of the AC line. This part literally does nothing until a bolt of lightning hits very close to your house. Even if it shows signs of arcing, it is still good and does not need to be replaced, unless it has melted into a blob of goo and that never happens. The silver part you describe is the degaussing thermistor. It only works for the first half-second when the set is turned on, demagnetizing the picture tube. If you do not replace the thermistor, it is possible that when you move the set you will see that the colors are not quite right in the corners of the picture. If you are careful you can solder the legs back onto the thermistor, but they love to crack when heated with a soldering iron. Bring the broken one to your local TV shop and they will most certainly have many new ones in stock.

ProScan PS32500 32"-Picture has white static line & Static/burning smell

It sounds like the circuit board is arching over somewhere. It could be as simply as cleaning and digging out the carbon mark to stop the arching. This is most likely the screen or focus voltage causing this, if there are no parts that have broken down. This will damage the printed circuit board and make things worse the more you let this cook. This could be dangerous for you to mess with because of the high voltage present, so my best advise would be to get this into the repair shop as soon as possible before this board burns up. It should not cost all that much if the CRT board can be repaired. Good Luck
