Kodak DX6490 My Kodak camera went dead and I failed to charge it for approximately 3 weeks.  I couldn't find the charger (lost in move) and went a bought a universal charger.  I've charged the battery, bought a new battery and charged that one, and still the camera will not come on.  Help.

Hi: This is a long shot, but I had a similar. It would start up, but lense would not extend. Secret was that it wanted the date re-loaded. They have a small internal battery to keep the clock going when you remove the main battery to change it. Many people never do this, just set it on the dock and recharge it. But IF you remove the main battery, and IF the camera is...elderly...the small battery has died and the clock has stopped and the camera has to know what time it is to run. Once you tell the camera what day it is (look in the viewfinder- it's asking for it) she'll fire right up.
I hope this works. These cameras are great. I cna change batteries in about 5 seconds now- practice. If you're fast enough, it won't lose its memory. Joe

How tocharge my kodak model6490

You can charge the battery with the charger that came with the camera. Or you can charge the battery with the camera dock. For that to work, you should switch off the camera. While the charging is stopped as soon as you switch on the camera.
If you don't have a dock nor a charger, you could buy a new universal battery charger. Several brands do have universal camera battery chargers. Those new chargers sense what voltage your battery needs and will give no more.

Can I charge the camera battery while in the camera using my laptop and a USB cord?

Hello,There is no way to charge the KLC-5001 battery with a usb cord,It requires a voltage supplied by the charger or the dock. There are after-market chargers available on E-BAY. They do not cost very much and some even come with new battery.Hope this helps.

A stupid mistake and now my kodak easyshare dx6490 lens comes off

Hello, This happens quite often and the bad news is it is not worth the cost of repair, the good news is you can sell it on E-Bay for parts and by a good used one to replace it.If you buy a good used DX6490 you can still use your battery, charger, and other items from your old camera.
I have several very nice DX6490 units that I sell.

Kodak dx6490 Powers up and shuts itself off.Battery is charged!

Hello, Sounds like you may have a battery problem. The DX6490 battery loses it's capacity over time, If the battery is a couple years old they are known to fail. May not be any problem with camera, try a new battery and let it charge completely before installing it.

Kodak DX6490 Not Charging

mine did the same thing, only it hadn't been dropped. Turns out, the battery went bad. The repairman said that the life of those batteries is only about 3 years average. He also said the average lifespan of the camera itself, with frequent usage, was only 3 years! I am still hoping to get the auto focus fixed on mine though. I sure did love that camera.
