The picture is showing a double image and is distored.

The problem you are refering to is more than likely a convergence problem. The convergence circuit in your tv is controlled by an IC (integrated circuit) stk392-110 and it makes the 3 colors (red, blue, green) line up/converge together to create a clear picture. You'll know when this part needs to be replaced because the picture you see is 3d looking and possibly bowed on the top or bottom or on the sides in any or all 3 colors.

I have an8 year old toshiba 57h81 projection tv. I am seeing pink and green double shadows around images. Any thoughts? Cost to fix? Thanks.

Have you tried the convergence procedure from the on screen menu? If the red and blue don't want to adjust when you do this then you most likely have bad convergence IC chips which can be replaced for about $50-75 in parts and $200+ in labor. If you have experience with electronics and soldering you can do this yourself. If not  leave it to a TV tech.

Samsung HCM5525W TV red blue outlines on images

The Samsung has bad convergence IC's most likly. This should be repair ONLY by a trained technician as a TV set is not a place to experiment or tinker with because of the extremly high voltage inside. This repair should cost you in the range of 250 to 400 bucks . Good Luck
