Question about Toshiba 57H82 57" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

My 57 inch Probjection Toshibi had the best picture. The problem with it now is tearing in the picture and wavy horizontal vertical lines. Problem is most prominent with DVDs. Initially the picture is unusable but eventually clears after about ten minutes. Also, problem is present on digital and high def channels.

I have the same destorted picture for the first 5-10 minutes when the tv is turned on for the first time... The sound also takes a while to warm up and work. Now it takes about 10-20 minutes.. unfortunately I have no money to have it fixed and was hoping someone can help me do it myself. Unfortunately the economy is tight and so is my pockets. I would really appreciate the help. More than you'll ever know. This happened before and it was under warranty. I show the description for the fix was replaced hyper module, convergence, test unit. Hope this helps you.. I just need to know if I can actually change one on my own and HOW??

The hyper module is located in the metal box just behind the panel where all your cables plug into the tv. It is sodered to the board syou have to get under neath and melt the four places that the metal box is sodered. Once it's out you can either replace the whole board if you can find one. I can't seem to find it anywhere. you can also chage out all the 16v 10uf capacitors which is generally the source of the problem, but even these seem to be very difficult to locate now too.
Toshiba doesn't carry them anymore. Here is a link to the bulletin they put out becuase those capacitors are a known problem and failure point.

If you locate the board for replacement on the net please post a reply to this thread i'm in search of. Thx.

Wavy lines

Are the wavy lines horizontal or vertical? If they are horizontal and up near the top of the screen it could be 60HZ interference from a power cord running over the cable from the DVD player to the TV. There could also an internal breakdown of the shielding by the power supply of the DVD player. If the lines are vertical it is likely the cable or maybe the input jack on the TV. Could be a number of things.

Picture Jumps/flashes for first 5 minutes

There is a module called a hyper board that is vertically mounted near the jack panel. Inside the module are 10mf/25v capacitors they are grtting weak. The module is fully shielded and pluggs into a socket. the module has 4 tabs (2 on each end) that must be unsoldered before it can be unplugged. This repair should be done by a qualified technician. The caps are surface mounts and very small. Unless you have excellent soldering skills and a rock steady hand DO NOT ATTEMPT to repair this problem on your own.
