Hi I have 2 XAV2001 that I installed in February -- one in my home office and one in my basement. The house is new with new electrical wiring and fuseboxes. The connection worked well in the beginning with tx 50mb and rx 10mb Over time the connection has deteriorated so that rx is never better than 5, and tx is often 30-40. This is tolerable, except that now many times the basement adapter does not show up at all using the netgear utility and there is no connection between the two points Other than the change in seasons there is no change in anything that is plugged in -- calls to Netgear get me nowhere.

This is a problem with Powerline devices. Its a sort of hardware problem with the Powerline devices
Suggest you to get it replaced from Netgear as its under warranty.(1 yr warranty) Call 1-888-NETGEAR and ask them give RMA(Return manufaturer Authorization) for this device. They will test your device and provide you replacement Just tell them Powerline device doesn't work at all for RMA.
Hope this helps, as there is no other way to diagnose this Device

My water heater is leaking a lot. water comes from the down bellow. It started like three months ago but it is getting worst Do I need to replace it? how much it will cost a similar one?

It sounds like you need to replace it, Actual cost can very widrly depending on your location but I would say $350-400 is probably close. Plus installation unless you can do it yourself. Hope this helps. Thanks

How to ground receptacles in home basement

you need a 2 wire with ground. Some older homes were wire with just a 2 wire. you can take a wire from the nuetral and connect it to the ground screw to trick testers into thinking it is grounded properly, but i would not.

Inherited a NT5B05 3x8 with my house and I'm flumoxed...

By the year 2012 or 2013 it's not likely you will pay $20-30 for an additional land line instead of $10 for a cell phone :-)

The cabinet is a Digital Compact 308 for 3 outside lines and 8 digital extensions without caller ID. The system uses M7208/7310 and possibly 7324 phones. If you fetch $100 for it on eBay, I'd be amazed. Here's a stolen link to someone who has a description of one.

Slinglink stopped working!

I had the same issue with the slinglink and decide to replace those with a new set of D-link gigabit powerline adapters (found a pair for $20 on eBay). Before replacing though, I would hook up a laptop to the slinglink and see if you are getting internet through it (run a speed test if you do). Slinglink might just need to be reset and paired again. In any event, Technology has come a long way since the slinglink, so you can't go wrong with upgrading powerline adapters for Slingbox or just for general use.
