Horizontal lines that look like streaks or smears going from left to right

I don't have another system handy to check it by to see if it's the monitor or the card. Have no clue how to do it yourself fix the card... any suggestions?

    Thanks for any help.

Just discovered it goes away when I tilt the monitor back slightly. The problem seems to come and go intermittenly. Strange. I'll check the cable plug... that sounds like a good thing to do.

Horizontal lines that look like streaks or smears, you need consider:
1) video card memory error cause it if the display memory on the video card
2) check RAM (clean pins and slot pin)
3) monitor power on without cable to see the menu display, it is ok if no streak, need to clean monitor cable plug.

My envision 22" LCD was doing the same thing. check that VGA cable is secure at both the CPU and monitor. AND tighten the screw on the cable. (Mine was loose at the CPU) . If that doesn't work try a different VGA cable. If that doesn't work chack the video card is secure in the mother board is applicable.

Streaks & Smears after changing toner cartridge.

Remove all of your toners and clean them off. Replace each one and make sure they are well setted in the unit before going to the next one. Make sure the carosel turns smoothly and nothing is hanging up on the sides. Reboot the whole printer and let it settle for 5 mins before printing. toners come lose sometimes when you turn carosel around. Hope this helps you these printers are a ***** to deal with ,but when they are right there great.

Try removing signal cable and refitting at both ends.
Signal cable also could be faulty.

How to fix horisontal lines on display ( see the picture)? They stronger when system is restarted and then fading but never disappearing. They always stay the same.

horizontal lines can be caused by either a faulty grapchics card or a faulty monitor. try adjusting the screen refresh rate. if you are using a windows xp system goto

start>control panel>display>settings>advanced>monitor

then adjust the screen refresh rate and see if the horizontal lines disappear. if not, then you probably have a faulty graphics card or monitor.

Short, 3/8", horizontal blurs

I posted this answer on another "white streak" question, I suspect this is right:

This issue presents itself in different ways in this monitor, in the form of smeary video, or color changing from the left to right, or as you indicate, a smear following text. I know this as I own this monitor, and have repaired this myself. There are three 1 mf capacitors, surface mounted on the control board inside the monitor that fail. They are in the RGB input lines, and when they fail they cause distortion of the RGB signals, causing what you see. They are the three caps you will find in a row, spaced maybe 14mm on the board between the VGA connector and the processor chip. I would replace all three, observing polarity markings. You can get by just fine using old-style thru-hole caps, just form and clip the leads and solder 'em down on the surface-mount pads. I highly recommend proper soldering tools for this job though, especially for the removal of the old parts, they don't want to come off unless you can heat both pads at the same time.
