The Hicom 303III was working fine, but when I download an Map Update program, it stops working. How can I know if ny device is off? Does it have a switch?

  • sestradar Aug 25, 2008

    I can't find a power switch.

  • sestradar Aug 25, 2008

The computer recognizes it. The Map program recognizes it at port 4, but it gives no data because it won't start. The Map program said "GPS not connected"

  • sestradar Aug 25, 2008

The manual does not help. It doesn't describe a switch. It tells about "press Reset" but NO reset buton anywhere

  • sestradar Aug 25, 2008

It is detected, but is like if it doesen't turns on. No data to the Map program.

It used to blink the LED at start and stay on when working, but now LED never blinks.

Led off - receaver switch is off

    led on - signal lock

    led flashing - signal searching.

  • Ekse Aug 25, 2008

user manual is on the cd. try rotateing the receaver, it rotates. or look for a switch

  • Ekse Aug 25, 2008

dont have the user manual to confirm how it is turned on, either by a switch or when it is used by a program - when a program tries to use it.

  • Ekse Aug 25, 2008

look in the manual on the cd.

  • Ekse Aug 25, 2008

It must be a problem in the program in that case, can you try reinstalling it without the update to see if the problem dissapears?

step by step solution read this and solve your problem.

    Troubleshoot a GPS receiver
This topic contains information about how to troubleshoot problems that can occur when you configure and use a GPS receiver with MapPoint.

    Troubleshoot configuring a GPS receiver

When I connect my Microsoft GPS device to my computer, the New Hardware wizard prompts me to provide the location of the device driver. How can I find the device driver?

If you are using Microsoft® MapPoint 2006 with GPS Locator and connect the GPS device to your computer before installing MapPoint 2006 with GPS Locator, you must provide the location of the device driver.

To find the device driver for your Microsoft GPS device

    1. Insert the MapPoint 2006 with GPS Locator Setup CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive on your computer.
    2. If you see the message, Would you like to reinstall or remove MapPoint 2006 with GPS Locator, click No.
    3. Navigate to D:\GPSDrvrs. (where D is the name of your CD-ROM drive.) If your computer is running Microsoft® Windows® 98 or Windows Me, open the 98_ME folder. If your computer is running Windows XP, open the NT_XP folder. The device driver has a file name extension of .inf.

  • tech expert12 Aug 25, 2008

When you use your GPS device with MapPoint, it must be configured to use a COM port below 100, and a COM port of 20 or below is recommended. Devices assigned to COM ports above 100 are not recognized as GPS devices by MapPoint.

To ensure that you have selected the correct port

    1. Connect your GPS device to your computer.
    2. In the GPS task pane, click Configure GPS to open the GPS Receiver Settings window.
    3. Click Scan to scan the ports on your computer for available GPS devices. When the process is complete, the message GPS device found appears next to the name of the port to which the GPS device is connected.
    4. Select that port from the list, and then click OK.

How do i update my gps

A GPS will help find the shortest and fastest routes to a particular destination. When the maps are out of date, the GPS may not be able to find the best route. A GPS should be updated at least once per year. Some GPS manufacturers will allow the user to download free updated maps; however, many manufacturers require the user to purchase updated maps. Updating a GPS map isn't complicated, and will take about 2 hours to install.

1.Turn on the GPS and plug the USB cable into the USB slot located on the GPS.
2.Plug the other end of the USB cable into the USB slot on the computer.
3.Insert the map update DVD into the computer. If you have a map download, locate and open the file on the computer.
4.Click on Update Firmware located on the main menu. Click "OK" when the firmware is finished updating.
5.Unplug the USB from the computer and turn off the GPS. This will allow the firmware to reset on the GPS. Turn the GPS back on and select the language and time.
6.Reconnect the USB to the computer and click on "Update Map," then click on "Load Maps."
7.Connect to the Internet by clicking on the activation link. This will display the activation number. Find the serial number located on the back of the DVD. If you downloaded the update, a serial number was provided. Enter the serial number and activation code into the update program to continue updating.
8.Close the program after it has completed the update, and unplug the USB from the computer and the GPS. Turn off the GPS to finish the update.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya.

Error screen trouble shooting

If you have the USB cable and a dvd/cd that contains the software/maps, then it needs to be loaded. Install the software on your computer. With the unit off, plug it into USB, then turn on unit. run program installed from dvd/cd. you can also try resetting the unit by holding down the Menu and Nav key, hopefully a small box appears and you can use the stiff stick to change the numbers. if this does appear, change the numbers to read 32 then press the stiff stick in (pressing enter). _Daniel
