Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct the problem. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

DSC-HX5, Lens is Stuck in Zoom out mode. Turn On works but screen stays black. Automatically turns off after 10-20 seconds.

Since there is nothing you can do to fix this at home you have 2 choices, replace the camera or send it back to the manufacturer for exchange (very expensive)

Camera will not take pictures. Message on screen says: System Error Zoom I have not had any problems with zoom. How do I fix or clear this message. Thanks, Marsha

Please follow the steps:
1. Ensure batteries are fully charged.
2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand, dirt or any damaged etc.
3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck
4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 5 minutes and refit the battery only.
5. Now turn on camera( with out card ) and see ,if working then fix the memory card & again turn on the camera. If working then fine.

Otherwise format the memory card and fix back in camera again & try. Make sure before format the memory card take a back up all photos in your computer then format. If no luck then reset or restore the camera setting by pressing Menu key for 2 sec... in not done the press both Menu & self time key for 2 - 4 sec.

After all of this if you not success then its a lens error. The lens stuck from the inside becasue the lens guide pin is damaged or out of guide line. In this case you have to replace or repair the camera lens.

When I'm taking a picture, and i try to zoom, it zooms a little then stops, says lens error and goes black. If i turn it back on, it goes on, I just can't zoom.

Most digital cameras jams are the cost of lens problems while zooming, with Nikon Coolpix S4000, simply use your fingers carefully pulling on the lens while turning the camera on. this can be done by getting your fingernail under the lens opening and gently pull.muunlyte5608.jpg

Camera says turn off and turn on panasonic lumix dmc-fs5

Hi,
While you are turning the camera on, hold the lever which you use for zooming in. The lens should extend before you get the annoying message about turning the the camera off and on. Then, gently apply pressure to the lens as if you wanted to push it back to the camera. While you are doing this, turn the camera off (lens should come back into the body of the camera). This will solve your problem.
Thank you!

Camera lens will not come out all the way, and the screen says to turn camera on and off again. and absolutely nothing happens.

I brought my cybershot 7.2 to the beach, and stupid me did not have it in a proper camera case, and I am sure that a grain or two of sand got into the zoom lens. I used a sewing needle to no avail to try to probe this out, and in the end all I did was use my fingernail to help pull the zoom lens out, when turning the camera on, this worked perfectly after a few try's and the camera is now functioning as good as new.

The grain(s) of sand were obviously preventing the motor from opening the zoom lens.

Hope this helps.
