Sad to say, that clicking sound is a common sign of a bad hard drive. A working system might be able to read data from the drive if it retries enough times. You can remove the drive from the laptop and connect it to another computer using a drive adapter or by putting it into an external drive case. The clicking sound usually means the drive is pretty far gone, though. Hopefully you've been backing up anything important.
