Hook up problem

I disconnected another TV from direct TV (HDMI) and connected it to my Samsung 40 inch HDTV and I can only receive the HD channels, all others give me "not supported mode" message. I am also getting not supported mode, however my 3 year old was playing with buttons and i have no idea what he did!! Stupid babysitter!!

    'The problem was clearly stated.'
    'Clearly?'
Why is your 3-year-old's playing with the buttons a problem?
When are you getting a 'not supported mode' message?
Who 'else' is? 'I got the error, and I did too'?
What kind of TV do you have The type of cable you use isn't the most helpful bit of information for us.
DirecTV isn't synonymous to HDMI, it's a type of cable that can be used with almost anything.
    Am I making myself clear?!

As for your problem, unplug the satellite receiver and plug it back in after about 30 seconds.
If that doesn't help, try using a component-video cable or a simple RCA cable to diagnose. I really can't help. Look at the DirecTV manual. Look at your TV manual. Look at the DirecV settings. Look at the TV settings.

Hi, I am in Melbourne Australia. Can I receive gem hd channel thru my dmr-ez48v. I haven't tried but I do have a hd monitor screen that I can plug the unit into. Also what does the hdmi on the unit do....

HDMI means high definition multimedia interface.

When connected to an HDMI compatible unit, an uncompressed digital audio and video signal is transmitted, enabling you to enjoy high quality digital video and audio with just one cable. When connecting to an HDMIcompatible HDTV, the output can be switched to 1080p, 1080i or 720p HD video.

Panasonic uses Viera link option between their video products.

When connecting with a Panasonic TV (VIERA) or a receiver equipped with 'HDAVI Control' function, linked operations are possible. [Linked Operations with the TV (VIERA LinkTM HDAVI ControlTM)]

Please use HIGH SPEED HDMI cables that have the HDMI logo (as shown on the cover).
It is recommended that you use Panasonic's HDMI cable.
Recommended part number: RP-CDHG10 (1.0 m/3.3 ft.), RP-CDHG15 (1.5 m/4.9 ft.), RP-CDHG20
(2.0 m/6.6 ft.), RP-CDHG30 (3.0 m/9.8 ft.), RP-CDHG50 (5.0 m/16.4 ft.), etc.
Non-HDMI-compliant cables cannot be used.

(the above is from the owner's manual of this model - page 40 tells you about linked operation using HDMI HDAVI control and how to set it up)

As for Gem HD, this unit has an SD (standard definition) digital tuner - it will not decode/receive HD channels. I should point out that 7mate also is a HD channel but is not specified as such in any menu or even their website. (I found this out by accident when I tried to record on timer 7mate one day and all I got was 'unable to decode HD channel' banner at the bottom of a blank screen)

Channel 11 is a SD channel - so this will work with your DMR-EZ48 as will all the other relevant main free to air channels (ABC/7/9/10/SBS). GO! is also a SD channel.

To be able to record HD to this combo unit you will need a HD set top box connected via its AV inputs. HDMI simply means you will get HD video quality from the combo to the TV, you will not receive HD channels from your HDTV to your DMR-EZ48 unit via this method.

How to hook up direct tv box, samsung hd tv,pioneer vsx-820 receiver, samsung blue ray bd-c5500

If you're using HDMI cables, which I suggest you do, this is how you set it up.
From the TV, you'll connect an HDMI cable to your receiver.
Connect the blu-ray player to your receiver.
There's a small amount of setup required with the receiver, but it's self explanatory.

Can record Sky programmes but not view live.

You must connect up the TV to the SKY box, via Audio Visual cables too, in order to watch, recorded programs. You need to hook, up, Component, HDMI, or Composite, You select it by an EXTERNAL channel.
Connect the cable running from the wall into the "In" port on the Sky Box HD receiver. This cable brings in the signal to your receiver. Make sure the cable is securely fastened to the receiver, otherwise you might experience image and audio issues.
Attach an HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the Sky Box HDTV receiver. The HDMI is a single cable that provides both HD audio and video signals.
Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into an available HDMI port on the HDTV.
Power on the HDTV and the Sky Box HDTV receiver. Press the "HDMI" button on the TV's remote control. This will display the cable contents of the HD receiver onto the television.

I am about to receive an LG32LF4700 Freesat/HD TV If I disconnect the SKY Box and connect the TV direct to the Dish cable will I receive Freesat HD channels. Also can I connect an extra bedroom TV into the...

Yes you can split the signal out from the back of the Freesat/HD (not the TV)to the second TV.
Look what outputs are on the Freesat box - the RF (standard cable) output should go to the 2nd TV (TV set to CH3) and the a/v cables,HDMI or DVI cable should go to the new TV - Note:To receive HD the output from the Freesat should be either HDMI,DVI or Composite output (RGB video jacks) with red White for audio. If you have HDMI this is best - it also provides audio.

Best way to connect new system

After trying several ways, we decided the best picture was to run the blue ray (out) directly to the TV (in) with an HDMI and another HDMI from the sat. box(out) to TV(in), then optical audio from TV (out) to receiver (in). This way you don't have to change channels on the reciever when switching from TV to DVD. Remember that HDMI is one cable that supports audio and video. If you are using all Samsung products and want to use one remote, using the Anynet feature, I think it has to be connected with an HDMI. I'm going to try connecting an HDMI too from the reciever to the TV to see if this feature will work. It does with the Blue Ray.

Connecting HD cable box to DVR too HDTV

When I hooked up my HD cable box using an HDMI cable, I had to go into the cable screen menus and select HDMI output. You may have to do something similar when using an S-video cable. Your DVD recorder doesn't seem to have an HDMI input, so you'll have to use the S-video or (worst case) composite video (red, white, yellow cords). Your cable box may also be scrambling the signal so that you can't record. That may be why you can record by bypassing the cable box.
