Question about GE Energy Star WCVH6260F Front Load Washer

Takes hours to wash a load of towels

My GE WCVH6260 front loading washer does a great job washing regular loads, but when I put in a load of towels, or anything heavy, it can take 3 + hours to wash load. It is less than 2 years old, and I have had it serviced twice, but am told there is nothing wrong with it. Any ideas?

Yes, I have a very similar problem when washing towels or other thick items. They are sopping wet after a very lengthy cycle. It doesn't always do it, but lately it's happening more frequently.

When malfunctioning, the washer can't spin at full speed. It seems to detect that the load isn't balanced, stops, turns back and forth for a while to redistribute the load, then tries to spin again. It'll do this many times, resetting the timer each for each re-try ... hence, the cycle takes a very long time and doesn't spin fast enough to dry the towels. If I open the door and manually re-distribute the towels it sometimes spins just fine on the next try. I'm guessing it could be one of three things:

    (1) bad "balance" sensor is too picky about tub shaking, (2) tub shock absorber struts (there are 4 of them) are too "loose", or (3) bad design.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Sorry, I should have provided more info. I've been fighting this problem for almost a year (warranty almost up!) and the drain trap was the first thing I tried. It drains just fine. Nothing in the trap. No obstructions in the line. Tub is as empty as it can be when starting spin cycle.

Just found out that there is a drain trap that can get clogged and needs regular maintenance. Take out the bottom panel by removing 3 phillips screws (7mm nut driver optional). Unscrew the trap (water will probably drain out so be prepared). Clean out debris. You may also have to remove the hose connected into the trap in extreme clogged cases. Just use pliers to release the hose clamp.
Replace the trap plug, hose (if necessary) and the bottom panel.

Good luck!!!

The washer smells

I Talked with a retail appliance sale's person about two weeks ago because I had the same problem. Buy a can of country time lemonaide and put three scoops into the drum and run it through a regular wash cycle. This removes the odor. Also around the rubber door seal you can pull the rubber back from the drum side and wipe around the seal with lemon juice due to water and detergent being trapped in the seal. Once every month should do the job. It works for me.
