Since you didn't specify your make and model, you're stuck with my generic explanation. At various points in the paper path, there are small (~1/2") black plastic paper detection flags. These are supposed to swing freely (may be loaded with a light spring). When a sheet of paper goes through the printer, it pushes the flag up (or down), and a tab on the flag blocks the slot in a black U-shaped optical detector. (You can view a typical example of the detector here.) If the detector slot is loaded up with contaminants such as dirt, lint, or ink, it will signal that paper is there when it isn't supposed to be (i. e., paper jam). If the flag is hanging up or stuck, it will produce the same result. Sometimes there will be a small shred of paper stuck right at the flag. (That's why you should always assemble the pieces if the paper tears when you clear a jam. You need to be sure you got all of it.) If you suspect ink contamination, use a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol to clean the detector lenses.
The paper detector flags are usually found at the pickup roller, at the entry to the print media deposit area (ink or laser toner), sometimes at the fuser entry in a laser printer, and at the exit rollers.
Try to restart it by shutting down the pc and the printer. Pull out the the power plug of your printer and unplug the plug of your printer from pc. After that plug -in again the cable to your printer to pc and plug in the power cable of your printer after that turn on your pc and your printer.
