Question about Magic Chef Refrigerators

Open Question

I have a model MCBR980W Refer and with the thermostat on 7 (HI) the best it will do in the refer compartment is 50.2f and at the crisper is 61.4f. The freezer does freeze but is not iced over. Temp was tested with a Fluke #52 thermometer with remote leads. Fridge is located in my garage which is on average 100f. Magic Cheif gives us a warranty with a web site WWW.Magicchef-ewave.com to contact for warranty which is not active.. Where do I go from here?? Refer has not been an outperformer since I got it a christmes time but a 50f beer is terrible.. Thanks Steve Stewart, Lake Havasu AZ

SOURCE: Amana Refer. runs all the time.

Have you ever cleaned the condenser coil in the back or under the bottom of the refrigerator. Dirty coil will cause this problem, also make sure the little fan motor in the back is working if it stops you can get the same condition. If not these two conditions you may be starting to have a refrigerant problem.
The unit gets low on refrigerant and just dosen't cool properly.

SOURCE: Kenmore Fridge, freezer compartment is cold

Should be around 10 degrees.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Hi,

Best I can see the water tank in located behind the crisper drawers in the refer section. Remove bot bottom drawers and you will see 25 feet of 5/16 tubing coiled and tied to the back wall, that is the water tank. Good Luck

Maytag model #mtf 2156ge freezer is good and cold, everything still frozen, bottom is not cooling

check to make sure the shutter between the freezer and refrigerator section is operating. The shutter has a small motor that opens and closes on the refer side thermostat. The shutter is what lets the cold air from the freezer circulate into the refer compartment. Could also be a bad thermostat in the refer section.

How many thermostats are there and where are they located?

If the model number is correct, your heating circuits are comprised of the following components:

1. Heating Element
2. Thermal Cut-Out
3. Hi-Limit Thermostat
4. Internal Bias Thermostat
5. Thermal Fuse

You can access your heating circuits by UNPLUGGING the dryer and removing the rear panel.

As viewed from the rear of the dryer, your Heating Element will be located on the RIGHT hand side inside a heater box. The Thermal Cut-Out will be located on the outside of the heater box at the end opposite the heating element terminals. The Hi-Limit Thermostat will be located adjacent to the heating element terminals.

The Internal Bias Thermostat and Thermal Fuse are two small components mounted on the Blower Fan housing on the lower LEFT hand side.

You can refer to the following parts illustration for assistance:

The components are listed as follows:

Heating Element (Item 17)
Thermal Cut-Out (Item 9)
Hi-Limit Thermostat (Item 15)
Internal-Bias Thermostat (Item 8)
Thermal Fuse (Item 7)

Our LG LFX25950SB has been freezing all the food in the refer since we purchased it 3 years ago. Had numerous service calls. They tell us we are leaving the door open, we do not have the correct...

Contact LG @ 1 800-243-0000 and let them know what is going on.
This is a known problem and a fix is availiable.

LG may help you out.

Call M-F for the american call center to answer.

If they wont you can fix it real easy.
Pull out bottom crisper dware.
Look on the back wall.
You will see a dime sized hole.
This hole allows cold air from the freezer to cool the crispers.
Cover the hole with a small piece of duct tape.
This should stop the crispers from freezing.

Also on the right wall of the ref. you will see 1 or 2 egg shapped white covers.
Remove the covers carefully so you dont break it.
You will see a 1" white thermister probe.
Pull the probe out of the insulation and clip it on the egg shaped cover and reinstall the cover.

The thermister tells the computer how cold the ref. is.

Location of model & serial number on a Kenmore 20 porcelian plus unit. This is a older frig.

Most common spot is down where your kick plate is. Remove your kickplate and look for a metal or metallic looking model number plate. If not there then pull your crispers out and look at the side walls inside the refer section. Finally on some models look at the ceiling in the refer section. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists
