Pilot light keeps going out during hot days - Rheem Water Heaters

Solution is probably better ventilation to gas water heater.
On hot days, heat and lack of ventilation can cause pilot outage.
Hot air causes oxygen molecules to move farther apart, and combustion is no longer supported so pilot goes out.

The pilot light goes out. When I go to re-light the pilot and turn the temp for vacation to medium the flame goes out again.

The pilot light jet may have got a little bit of dirt or grit in it which is preventing it from keeping alight. Try probing the jet with a fine piece of wire to see it the blockage can be dislodged. You may have to unscrew the jet to clear it by blowing air through it. Make sure gas is turned off first before removing any parts.

The pilot light also has a thermocouple that allows gas to the pilot light while the flame is burning. If flame goes out it shuts gas off to the pilot jet. The thermocouple is bypassed by a switch during the initial ignition and once the thermocouple warms up after a minute or two of holding in the bypass switch, it should maintain the pilot. If, after cleaning, the pilot light keeps going out, it would seem that your thermocouple is faulty and needs to be replaced

M# 640HORT4 s# H07A090378---MY Pilot Light wont

Hi,
First thing is to replace the thermoscouple. When you light it you get it a bit hotter then normal. You turn on the main burner which keeps it hot. Then when it goes back to just pilot the flame is not hot enough to hold the pilot valve in.
Replace the thermocouple and you will be fine...

Natural gas hot water heater not stying lit

Probably a bad solenoid in the gas valve. Higher voltage of a new thermocouple keeps it open longer but it still fails over a period of time. Look into a new gas valve for the water heater.

Water wizard 10P pilot light keeps going out

If the thermocoupler is defective the gas to everything is shut off. The coupler is the bulb that sits ib the pilot flame If it doesn't heat up it will sense no pilot and shut the gas off. They don't cost much and are easy to change. Good Luck, Ned

Gas water heater pilot goes out only on very hot days

It sounds more like the pilot is being blown out by drafting. If there is any open shielding at or below the pilot light line , it is very possible for it to blow out.Hold a tissue between your fingers and ck for drafts around the burner and pilot area. If it's the case, The drafting needs blocking.the exhaust will still exhaust because of the heat it generates and confined location in the combustion chamber. Good Luck.
