Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I got a new MP830 copier on 4/22/08. I didn't open it until August 2008. I have an MP830 at my office and I have loaded ink wells before. When I had the ink wells all loaded in the new copier and all their lights were lighted I lowered the lid Paper Output Tray. The LED said there was a problem, so I raised the tray and the ink tanks started to move toward the center so they could be serviced. The copier made a loud screaching sound and the ink trays stopped before they were exposed and I could check them. The ink tank tray will move back into the copier, but when the tray is raised, the machine makes the same loud noise and stops every time. HELP.

The tray that holds the ink tanks does not move far enough into view to see anything inside the copier. There is nothing that seems to impede the ink tank tray that is visible

  • wdishaw Aug 24, 2008

I had it turned off for two days and when I turned it back on the problem was still there. The carriage belt only moves the ink tank tray about three fourths of an inch and then stops. The ink tray will slide back into the copier, but that doesn't do me any good because it is hidden inside the housing. Every attempt to turn the machine on and move the ink tray that way results in the loud screech and the ink tray freezing in place.

  • wdishaw Aug 24, 2008

The ink tray stops after an inch and no amount of urging or pulling makes any difference. It can be slid back into the housing, but it will not come out in the open. This machine has never been used. I had just unpacked it and was loading the ink tanks.

  • wdishaw Aug 24, 2008

I just unplugged it. I'll try again in about 20 minutes and let you know.

  • wdishaw Aug 24, 2008

I plugged the copier back in and once again it screeched and came to a halt. There is no ink on the carrier ribbon. I have never used the printer. Please give me an address to ship this defective printer back to Canon.

I'm glad you found an answer you like. It isn't accurate and it doesn't work. I'm going to send this copier back, with your help or without.

First unplug printer from power for ten minutes or so to see if reset clears the problem.
Try to understand what is obstructing the carriage with ink on carriage rail. Often the cover is obstructing the way, check also for foreign objects inside the printer.
If cartridge get stuck at the end and does not come back then the turnaround assembly at the end of the rail is faulty.
Check that the carriage belt is pulling and well in place.
Try moving the carriage on the rail.
Check this website for a detailed explanation of carriage related problems.

You should be able to move it gently with your hand, open the cover with printer on, same as you do to replace the ink, when carriage try to move help it gently, don't force to much, it it does not move the carriage belt is stuck, sometimes you need to take the printer apart to fix this.

Turning off is not enough to reset the eeproms inside the machine , you need to unplug power cable, sometimes control boardhave problems and you fix them by draining power for a while, if you just keep it off it won't do, you need to unplug it.

what you are experiencing is because the printer cannot read the encoder strip. The printer understand position of carriage thanks to the encoder strip. Check if this is dirty with ink, in this case you will need to clean it.

Here is the encoder strip of a dell, thanks Dell

more likely you will have to clean the encoder strip using cleaner. Here you can buy machine cleaner.
use a cotton tissue, be careful not to leave fragments on the strip.
The belt near to the encoder strip has oil on it be careful not to spread oil on the encoder strip.

My printers window states ink tank cannot be recognized....they are all new ink tanks.......mp830 printer

Open the main cover and the carriage will move to allow you to remove the cartridges. Look to see if the red light is flashing. This will indicate which ink tank is causing the problem. Change it for another new one. if it now works then return the faulty cartridge to your supplier.

My Canon Pixma MX850 has two black ink wells, one large and one small. During printing, the printer pulls from the large well first and so when it's empty, I can no longer print in black ink even though...

The small black tank is called "Photo Black Ink Cartridge" and is usually only sed when printing color pages or photos. There is no way to bypass that. Use the ********* ink since it is a cheaper cartridge judging by volume. Sets can be purchased on ebay for very low price. Link below:

How to Override Ink Level Gauge When Using Refilled Cartridges on PIXMA MP830

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink or toner cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled (the absolute worst possible choice) or third party cartridges (2nd. Worst possible choice) that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks or toner causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead or photo conductors.
If you are using factory new ink or toner cartridges, then please call the manufacturer’s Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

Error Code 6A00 on Canon MP830

try this 1. Opening the cover and wait for ink carriage to center 2. Pull out power cord 3. Pushed carriage to far left (should slide easily) 4. Used paper towel and wiped purge unit a lot of times (press down to soak paper towel with ink). Repeat until the paper towel is relatively clear. 5. Used diluted napisan (oxygen-based cleaning agent in the ratio of 1:3 with powder:water) and soaked paper towel 6. Repeat step 4 with wet paper towel. Repeat until purge unit is near-white. 7. Pulled and pushed clear plastic wiper (north of purge unit) and wiped it down 8. Slided carriage back to original position 9. Removed Print head cartridge and wiped out excess ink stuck on bottom.

Need to replace ink cartridge

Replacing the five ink tanks (cyan, yellow, magenta, black dye, and black pigment) is a simple task. The top of the printer flips up to reveal the ink tanks and the printheads, and by flipping a lever, you can pull out each tank individually. Being able to replace individual tanks is a boon, as you won't waste colors you use less frequently. Also, you won't need separate photo ink to print photos, which we appreciate. Canon ships the Pixma MP830 with full ink tanks. Replacement color and dye-based black ink tanks cost $14.25 apiece, while the pigment-based black ink tank costs $16.25. Canon estimates the cost per page for both black text and color text to be an inexpensive 2 cents.

Aligning the cartridge has nothing to do with the problem of the u150 error that two of the same ink tank cartridges are installed. It's a defective chip in the ink cartridge, as soon as I placed a new cartridge in it worked like a charm. HOLD ON TO YOUR INK CARTRIDGE RECEIPTS, because if this happens to you and the cartridge is obviously new....the store of purchase should provide you with a replacement (+ if you don't want to make a 2nd trip, some stores have the mp830 on display and you can have them toss the cartridge in and check to make sure the chip is working properly). IF THE STORE WON'T REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE CARTRIDGE, contact CANON (USA 1-800-828-4040)and explain the problem & hopefully the will stand behind their product and replace the defective cartridge.
