How old is this laptop? What conditions have you been using it in? It is quite possible that the fan intake and also the internal vents have been clogged because of dust, this causes the laptop to be unable to sufficiently cool itself, thus causing thermal shutdowns. Check the vents and try spraying some compressed air in from the exhaust vent.
For the wireless problem, while the computer is starting up, rapidly press either Del, F10, or F2 to enter the BIOS setup. The correct key to press is actually displayed briefly on startup, before windows begins to load. In the BIOS, follow the guidelines given at the bottom of the screen and navigate to an option where you can select the default state of your wireless adapter (i.e. on or off). This is usually different for each computer, so clarifying and telling me your model would also help.
