Fixya sent me a solution a couple days ago: load the latest version of Java. I did that, but the "error has occured in the scipts on this page" keeps occurring. It happens reading emails as well as visiting web pages. Help!

  • Anonymous Jan 01, 2009

"Java" is not "javascript." The errors are caused by either javascript or VBscript (both Microsoft products), and until Microsoft decides that the users are more important than the programmers at Redmond, WA, the useless script error popups will continue. What needs to be done - but cannot be done by end-users - is to turn off error messages by default, possibly redirecting them to a disk file. the programmers are perfectly capable of turning them on if they want to see them; we end-users are not able to fix the scripts even if the messages were giving us correct information (which they usually are not).

Keep getting Error 'a' is null or not an object internet explorer script error

This sounds like you need to change your start page. This is easily done by going to your control panel (select classic view on the left if you only have about 8 icons), selecting "internet options" and on the 'general' tab, where 'home page' is highlighted, change it to another url (such as http://www.msn.com). You should just be able to delete it then type the new url. Remember to click apply and OK.

Hope this helps.

First let me explain. Each browser handles scripts (the stuff that make up web pages and stuff) differently. You have Notify Me of Script Errors turned "ON" on your computer, so you will be notified of every error or warning - even if it works fine.

FIX: To fix this, Go to your Control Panel (START > Control Panel) and, in Classic View (you can find that on the left panel), click Internet Options. In the tabs on the top, click "Advanced", and then find the category "Browsing". CHECK "Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer), and "Disable Script Debugging (Other)". UNCHECK "Display a notification about every script error".

Click OK, and then messenger should work fine. If it does it again, restart your computer, then it will work fine.

The following instructions are directed at resolving your concern and it
is important that the steps are followed carefully to ensure the problem
is resolved. I know how this can be quite confusing but I would
appreciate your patience in accomplishing each step.

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

3. Click the General tab.

4. Under Browsing History, click Delete, and then click Delete Cookies.
5. Click Yes.

6. Click Close, and then click OK.

Have the computer look for newer versions of stored pages only when you
visit the page, and maximize the amount of disk space that the computer
uses.

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

3. On the General tab, click Browser History, and then click Settings.

4. Click Every time I visit the page.

5. Under Disk Space to Use, click and then hold the up arrow until the
highest value is set.

6. Click OK two times.

Reset the Security and Privacy settings to the default:

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

3. Click the Security tab, and then click Default Level.

4. Click the Privacy tab, and then click Default.

5. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Restore Advanced Settings.

6. Click Apply, and then click OK.

I hope these steps resolve your concern with Windows Live Messenger.
However, if these steps did not resolve the issue you are encountering,
please reply back to us and give the details of what happened when you
performed the steps provided.

Internet script error

Hi Barrie,

It looks like your first problem is not your problem at all - it's an error within the web page itself and as such there's not a lot you can personally do to fix it. You'll just have to wait for Microsoft to fix it. (Don't hold your breath!).

Your second problem looks like a problem with the spelling - try http://www.ancestry.co.uk instead of ancestory.
