Question about Maytag Dryers
this sounds like a clogged vent more than a thermostat. go outside with the dryer running and see if hot air is blowing out the vent. if not check outside vent for birds nest etc, inside make sure the vent is straight any dips in vent could cause water to build up clogging the vent. try this first if it doesn't work write back

The coils can be replaced, also I would check your dryer vent and make sure that the vent is clear and ffree from any blockage

firstly..is venting blocked? disconnect venting and try it. if problem persists then replace hi limit. assuming what you just told me was correct.

As you are looking at the igniter you may notice a little rectangular sensor to the left.
This tells the dryer that the igniter is glowing and it is OK to open the natural gas valve. If this sensor isn't working, the gas valve remains closed
Once the burner is lit, there is another sensor above the flame that is round. (flame sensor) This tells the dryer that the flame is lit.
If this sensor isn't working the dryer turns off the burner after a brief period.
This sensor can be cleaned or replaced.
