Why does my Ruud HVAC ventilation fan run constantly?

The two relays on the control board are for the heat (low speed) and for the cool (high speed) cycles. You should be able to determine which speed is sticking in by removing one at a time the heat speed wire and the cool speed wire. At any rate the circuit board will need to be replaced to correctly resolve the issue. If you have a 'clamp on ammeter' you could determine which wire to the motor (in addition to common) is remaining in the circuit. My concern is if the cool speed is the relay that is stuck on the motor may overheat when the heat relay closes. The circuit board reverses the position of the contacts in the two relays when in one mode or the other and stuck relay contact will not allow the opposite speed to de-energize. When you said the motor sounded like it was running 'correctly' when the cool speed was removed leads me to believe you have two winding energized due to the stuck relay and motor overheating and eventual failure is bound to occur. There is an internal winding thermostat that shuts power off when the motor overheats, but only so many times then it will remain open necessitating motor replacement.

You can definately change around the motor speeds, but you cannot use the cool RELAY for heat and vice versa as they are controlled by the board logic and inputs.

Of course there are always NEW products coming on the market that operate differently than the old systems.

Our older model amana wall unit is in the garage and worked fine until we programmed a new remote control garage door opener in there this morning. The ac unit was not on at the time but we went to turn it...

If it says E0 then what this usually means is that the unit was unplugged or power was cut to the unit while the unit was on. It then needs to be programmed again. If its the amana/goodman RSKP0009, you need to hold temp up and down arrows down together for two seconds then press off twice. It will take you into the programming mode. Settings are different for heat pump and electric heat models. If you just need a quick fix to get it to cool, I think you can get away with pushing the heat button a few times and then off. If you did it right the display should go off and the light by the off button will turn on. Press cool and it should work.

House does not heat very well, flow of air is not good. the unit is in the garage hanging from the ceiling. the return is facing the house and the fir flow is towards the garage door. to go back to the...

What would probably concern me the most is the return. Does the return just poke through a wall and have a filrter and cover over it, is it the only return in the house?

The supply duct going back into the house, does it go up into the ceiling and feed the rooms from the Attic?

If this is the case, alot of times flex duct is installed
and that can restrict airflow. It is only suppose to be used on the last five feet of any single duct run.

Check to see if this is the case, sometimes they put manual dampers in the duct, make sure they are open.

If you only have a single return, you may have to add
more. Finally check the blower speed and make sure
all ductwork is sealed.

Is there a reset button?

DO you have 24 Volts at the out door unit from the thermostat?
If so trace these 2 wires down. Both Will eventually go the what we call the contactor. While tracing down these 2 small wires see all the items they go to. You could have a High pressure switch (usually has a manual reset button on it) a low pressure switch, a delay timer and maybe a few other items I cant think of at the moment.

Usually the High pressure switch is the only one that has a manual reset. Where the button is depends on who made the switch. If its a red plastic body type the button will be on 1 end. If its metallic and rectangular it button will be about 1/4 inch long and protruding down 1 side of the rectangular box. Both of these type switches have a copper tube or a screw on mounting that allows the switch to sence the pressure on the out door coil (or if a heat pump it will be on the line on the compressor that goes to the out door coil or to the reversing valve).

If this helps you please giver me an outstdnbding rating and if you need more info please post and I'll get back to you. Thanks for using fixya.
