In laser printers, theres a charging corona wire that gives the paper a 600v positive charge which attracts the toner. once the paper hits the drum, a laser with a 600v negative charge is shot at the paper which discharges the paper and the toner isnt attracted to that area anymore.

either the laser is malfunctioning and not shooting a beam at the drum which would make all the toner go to the paper, or theres something wrong with the toner cartridge.

try going to the brother website and downloading the driver again (cheap and easy) and if that doesnt fix the problem, replace the cartridge, i know, not cheap. if neither fixes the problem, call the brother support line and see what they can do for you. maybe the warranty will cover the repair costs for you.

hope this helps.

So I have a Brother HL-2040 printer. One day, it just started printing a whole black page. I thought it was the toner cartridge, so I replaced it. I testprinted a page, and it still came out with a whole...

Try checking the corona cleaner on the drum unit. It should be slid all the way to one side. It is a little blue piece that slides back and forth. look for the arrow on one side and slide all the way to it. Not sure if that would cause solid black pages but I have seen it cause solid black lines on the page.

Replace the fuser, its overheating and that would cause the pages to stick the way they have been when trying to print pages of lots of black solid ink.

My Brother HL1230 printer prints with whole lines of text missing several times on a page and gets worse by missing more lines if printing several pages. It has a new toner cartridge. How can I sort this...

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

Good Luck

I did a front feed on my Brother HL-1230 printer and now the cheque is jammed in the printer. How do I get to the drum to remove the cheque?

Open the front of the printer via the 2 tabs on the sides of the front door. Lift the toner/drum assembly out of the printer. You should be able to see the paper in the unit. Carefully pull the paper out of the unit. You may want to run a few pages through the printer to pick up any residual toner before printing another document.

Brother printer prints solid black on one side

This is caused by a faulty drum/charging circuit or laser unit. The drum is positively charged with static electricity and a laser draws the image onto the drum (changing the charge to negative) the toner is positively charged to it will adhere to the negatively charged image which is now on the drum. your problem is that the drum is either not being positively charged or the laser is charging the whole drum. There is a corona wire on the drum, remove the drum, sweep the corona wire (there will be a tab that moves left and right) and try it again. next step is to replace the drum. if you dont have a spare drum or one from another printer then it may be more cost effective to buy another printer as drums are quite expensive and it may not even be the problem.
