Camera Mode Doesn't Work

I borrowed a friends Canon A75 to take some pictures but the problem is that it doenst go to the camera mode: It always stays at the preview mode. This happens even when the knob is placed at the 'Camera' mode and not the 'Preview' mode. Any idea why it is such ? I think the camera is some one year old.

Re: Camera Mode Doesn't Work

Thank you for replying but I did mention that the switch itself wasnt working as it should. I did solve the problem though a little risky for some. I loosened all the screws from the back side and lightly raised the plastic part. I then carefully cleaned the metal contact and the switch spring with a cotton bud using some medical spirit. Put everything back and it has been working all right ever since. The problem was the contacts had gone a little 'dirty'. My advise to people having the same problem is to go to the closest Canon repair center and hint them about the problem and the probable solution.

Re: Camera Mode Doesn't Work

There is a slide switch on the back of the camera, near the top right corner of the LCD screen. You apparently have it setting on the icon that looks like a triangle. Slide it up to the icon that looks like a camera.

Canon powershot A520 doesn't work in camera mode. I can look at and edit pictures in viewing mode, but switching to "camera" won't let me take pictures... in this mode it also lets me view pictures already...

Hi!
Do other buttons work? If so, the switch could be broken because it sounds it doesn't switch to the CAMERA mode, just stays at the VIEW mode.
If you're not experienced in repairs, you should give it to a local repair shop or Canon service center.

Sorry for the bad news. I repair these cameras very often.

I have a canon digital camera. The display is not working.

The A75 was a great camera, but after about a year of use, many complained of problems such as the one you describe (search on "Canon A75 Black Screen of Death" to see :-).

I believe that for a time Canon was offering replacements, but that was several years ago, so it is likely that this program is no longer available (might be worth a try at canon.com, but don't get your hopes up). The only good news is that you can get a much, much better version of this camera, the Canon A590 IS for just over $100.

Camera will not operate

Use the audio-visual cable that came with your camera and connect your camera to your TV.  Now turn-on your camera and switch to "view mode", e.g., to see a already taken picture on your LCD.  You will not see anything on your LCD but may see an image on your TV, even if the image is "F18".

I used the above trick to clear an F18 error on an A75.  Right now I am trying to get the camera to focus properly, but somehow the above cleared the F18 error.

If the above does not work, try connecting your camera to your computer's USB port using the other cable that came with the camera.  Your camera will want to be on, and in the "view mode".  I have read that this trick can reset an F18 error.

Good luck.  At least it costs zero to try these two tips.

Canon Powershot A75 blurred LCD display

It sounds like the focus element in your lens is not functioning properly. Does the lens retract completely when you turn off the camera? When you push the button does the camera attempt to focus the image? If you do not see any change in the image when you push the button, and do not hear any sound - then your focus motor is either jammed or malfunctioning. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
