It tells me to empty the empty trays

I started the cleaning process, and emptied the trays. When I put them back in, it tells me to empty them. I cleaned the insides where the tray sits and cleaned the contacts. What next?

After I cleaned the tabs really well, I still had the same problem. So, I took the back off so I could get to the "switches" that close the feedback circuits for the "Trays Missing" and "Clean Trays" messages. Long story short, you DON'T need to take the back off. You can solve the problem if you remove the trays and carefully remove the right side metal tab. This will stop the false readings, at least it did for me. Save the tab if for some reason you need to it later.
To remove the right side tab, use something like an eye glass screwdriver or butter knife to pry it up and out of the two small holding tabs. Then rotate the metal tab up and away from the tray and it will fall right off. Pictures below. Also clean the receptacle inside the machine (where the tray tabs connect). Q-tips or steel wool on a stick work well.

You need to clean behind/around the tabs where they reach into the tray. I have this same problem all the time, you need a brush or something and running water to really get behind the tabs. For some reason the cleaning process seems to get lots of gunk behind the tabs.

Empty Tray

@Derekns74 How do you remove the switch? My C3000 also reads "EMPTY TRAY" constantly, even if the tray is empty and clean. It does not display the "EMPTY GROUNDS" error only "EMPTY TRAY"

If I remove the tray it display "TRAY MISSING" but whenever I insert the tray again, it reads "EMPTY TRAY"

On one occasion when our power went out, it fixed the machine, so that it stopped reading "EMPTY TRAY," but after a day or two it stopped working and displayed the same EMPTY TRAY error message again.

Took the tray out to empty it, put it back in but now it says tray empty and won't work

Check the two contacts at the back of the tray. Be sure they are cleans as well as the plastic space between them. Then using compressed air clean where the contacts enter the machine in the rear. Usually there is moisture back there and the machine assumes the tray is full of water.

I was going through the decalcifying process and the message "empty tray" displayed (Jura Compresso Impressa S8). I removed the tray, cleaned it, replaced it, but the message remains as "empty tray" and I...

I had the same problem and had success with cleaning the contacts in the back of the machine with a small nail file/emery board. I found that the contacts that are inside the machine had a little calisification on them. Once they were cleaned up no problem.

The tray (JURA J5) keeps indicating that it needs to be emptied inspite of it being empty. How can i fix this problemo? Thank you.

The connectors at the back have liquid on them use a lint free cloth to remove the liquid and the tray fault will go away. If you want to prevent this make sure that when you pour the water out the tray you pour it out the side not the back and this is how the liquid or debris gets stuck there

Impressa z5 grounds empty will not reset even though the tray has been empty and the contacts cleaned

If the machine says TRAY MISSING it's the contacts at the back so clean as other people have stated, you can also use a cardboard nail file to clean the contacts at the back if there really skanky!.

If the machine keeps saying EMPTY GROUNDS even though you have, pull out the tray, look just inside the aparture where the tray goes top right at the front there is a small slot where if you look closely you can see a small white micro switch. This will be probably gunged up with coffee and the switch will be stuck up, get a can of WD40 and squirt a small amount up into the switch then poke the switch with a small screwdriver up and down until it moves smoothly.

Then replace all the bits, sit down, look smug and have a coffee cos you've fixed it!! :0)

Empty Drip Tray message

Try to clip off the tray contacts and clean behind them. If they are dirty and wet on the backside the machine will keep asking you for Empty tray. Use a small screwdriver and clip them off from the inside of the tray

Impressa E8: even though I did clean machine, it asks me again...

Make sure your water tank to fill, when you start the clean process, and the tray is empty and wiped down. Then add a 500ml container under the spout rather than let the water go into the tray.
Also if you have not serviced the machine for about 5,000 cups this can occur.
