Try this remove power from MX 780 first. Then replace the batteries in the remote with a brand new set of batteries.
Press the power button a the remote a few time while the MX 780 has no power.
Go ahead connect the power back to the MX 780 and use the remote to turn it on. If this does not work then there may be an issue with your video board which is a small motherboard that wither has a bad fuse or a bad capacitor.

The Nuvi 780 is an older GPS. Most likely, the battery needs to be replaced due to age. Many lithium-Ion batteries are only good for 2 years. More information can be found here:

remove you battery and leave it out over night, and then re install it, while facing north the next day, if it fails to come on your garmen needs to be returned to garmen inst, for repair, if you have dropped it or been wet you might have to replace the unit.
