Question about Canon PowerShot SD300 / IXUS 40 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Movie Watermark Just purchased a Canon SD300 and shot a test video. After downloading to the PC using the provided Canon software it now has "PC Video" and "www.jpg.com" stamped on each frame. Why is this occuring? It does not show up on the in-camera preview, so I assume it is being added by the downloading software. Any help on how to stop this from occuring would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You have the shareware version of the PicView Codec. "Note that the shareware (unregistered) version will add the PicVideo watermark when decompressing, as well as when compressing." I'd not use that one.

Skip the installing of drivers and software. Simply buy a card reader/writer. This is a great way to get your pictures downloaded from the camera. Remove the card put it in a card reader, download the files to where you want them, then edit or view as you please.

.thm video files

Here is some info from fileinfo.com :
Video thumbnails are often created on digital video cameras and digital cameras that record video; THM files may or may not be transferred to the computer depending on what software is used to import the video; each THM file shares the same filename as the video clip it represents, i.e. "clip001.avi" and clip001.thm."

How do I delete a watermark. Paid for extras

I will "assume" (i know its taboo) that you have properly inserted the serial number they sent/e-mailed you after you purchased it? You might also have to register this product with them. Check to make sure that the name and serial number match EXACTLY with the one you provided to them at time of purchase. If all this fails? Contact them, they and you should have a copy of your purchase to prove that the number or reg they gave you is faulty.

Hope this helps

Assuming it is a legal movie - use ffdshow codec - go into settings and click the watermark button and hey presto - no more water mark... not perfect results everytime but very good for no cost!

JVC camcorder problem

Still shots are stored on the card while movies are stored on the tape. You can transfer still images by placing the card in a media reader or by using a USB cable.

To transfer video you need a DV cable (not supplied with the camcorder). If you don't have a DV cable you can pick one up at BestBuy or most electronics stores.

In addition to the DV cable you also need software to transfer video. I understand Windows Movie Maker will work, but I use a product called Scenalzyer. You can download a free version of Scenalzyer at www.scenalyzer.com. The demo copy is fully functional but will leave a "watermark" on your video. You have to pay for it in order to transfer without the watermark. I think this camcorder may have even come with some software, but I'm not sure.

Many computers will automatically recognize these cameras as soon as they're plugged in, but some will require you to load driver software.

Take a look at this website if you don't have your manual and software guide:

http://camcorder.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL027859&pathId=26&page=10

You can download the manuals in pdf format at the above link.

Lastly, I want you to know that I'm not paid to provide these suggestions. It's a strange hobby I know, but I just like to help when I can. If you found this information helpful I hope you will rate it positively. Over half the solutions I've posted have not been rated.

Can't transfer video to PC

I could not find the manual for this model on the web, so I'm giving you my best guess.

I found some information that said you could transfer still images and Motion-JPEG video clips to your computer using the USB port.

In general you cannot transfer video to your computer using a USB. To transfer video from most camcorders you need a DV (Firewire, also called 1394) cable. You also need some software.

I'm thinking that when you have an SD card in your camcorder there's some way to tell it you wish to record Motion-JPEG clips to the card rather than full video to the tape. If you've created a standard recording I don't think you'll be able to transfer it with USB.

I believe Windows Movie Maker will let you connect to your camera using a DV cable. I used software called Scenalyzer. A full demo is available free of charge at www.scenalyzer.com. The demo will leave a "watermark" on your video. If you like the software you'll need to buy it in order to capture video without the watermark.

If you have any more questions, let me know.
