I decided to upgrade the memory from 512 mb to 1 gig. It was working slow but i was ok with it. I was on battery and i thought i would plug in the power so it would charge...and then the screen started to garble and sometimes when i try to restart it it would work. It would happen most of the time until it would no longer go through. The last time i had it on it went through only until the Asus logo and then it said winsys32 may be corrupt or missing try to click r to repair. i had it restored it worked for a while and then it happened again. Worst is i brought it with me on my official trip because i know i would need it in the work i have to do....just for encoding and storing data...until it wouldnt work anymore while i was there. It was so much a hassle bringing the notebook with me cause i had to transfer from one place to another and i cant even use it =( . Is the notebook capable of upgrading the memory or it can only accomodate a 512 mb?

You should be able to upgrade the ram to 2G but it must be compatible. I usually choose Kingston Value Ram or Crucial ram after checking their compatibility list.

I upgraded to 1 gig ddr2 800mhz pc6400 dimm ram but it only shows up as 512 mb. why ?

The P5VDC2-MX motherboard specs state that DDR2 533/400 ram is supported. Your 800 is just too fast and is forced to operate at a slow speed. It is not unusual to get half the amount of memory shown when operating at half speed.

Hardrive upgrade on IBM i 1400 Laptop ?

Hi! It's correct that your Thinkpad will only accept up to 512 mb of memory, and only certain chips will work with your unit. Here is a link that shows the memory that will work.

Below is a link for recommendations for a hard drive upgrade. It looks like you can go up to a 250 gig drive using Western Digital. Hope this helps! Hal

Problems with Foxconn 6100K8MA-RS Motherboard memory upgrade

This is an oldtime POST code memory error. Likely that ram is either installed wrong, bad RAM or the mobo doesn't like one of the memory sticks.

See http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm.

You must count the beeps.

Upgraded Dell Dimension 3100 memory to 2 Gigs - Windows XP fails

Did you add the two sticks with the 512 or remove the 512 and add the two 1gb sticks? Try booting the machine with ONLY the 1gb sticks in.

Your machine supports 1gb modules but they can't be higher than 533MHz. Check that the memory you purchased was either PC3200 (400MHz) or PC4200 (533MHz) and is 1.8v. If you post the part number off of one of the modules I can look it up for you.

I have a Satellite 2405-S221 and I was wondering if the max memory i can install is 512K, is there a way to update the bios, or ANYTHING to increase that amount to at least 1 gig??

Toshiba Satellite 2405-S221 Laptop takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 256 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Toshiba Satellite 2405-S221 Laptop to up to a maximum of 512 MB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 256 MB (removable) standard Memory installed.

In short.... yeah, 512k is the max.

Doesn't appear to a bios limitation. It is a hardware issue that is limiting the amount.

Toshiba sattelite

The problem must be the amount of total memory. Maybe the board supports only 1 gig. Chek the manual.

RAM Recognition 835GM PC Desktop

the memory is dual channel, so you have to use matched memory for it to work 1gig in each slot if possible, check the 1 gigs and 512's to see if they run at the same bus speed, if they are not matched there is your problem try a gig and a 512 in slot 0 to see if it picks the memory up, also there is sometimes an option in the bios to dissable dual mode
