I can't format and reinstall.. I popped the windows cd in and put install windows.. it gave me a option of upgrading or new copy... so I put new copy and it brought me to the windows setup screen without asking me if I want to format.. but I went ahead and typed the serial number in anyways thinking maybe it would take me there later... so it did end bring me to the blue screen and it's been a while since I've formatted a computer so my memory was kind of fuzzy on what to do and it gave me some options asking me to repair or something about going ahead with the reinstallation.. out the two I guess I went ahead and picked continue with it thinking it maybe it would be on the next page.. it loaded up 0 to hundred n halfway through i restarted it saying naw this isnt it... now when I restart it goes to the windows screen icon that always happens before you go into the log in screen but then it goes straight to the installation backround where they ask me for my serial number but says "setup restarting" and it restarts and then just loops and loops and loops? I'd appreciate some help thank you

Want to format hard drive

to format hard drive you either have a utility disk that will let you log into DOS and then run Format command. Or, if you have an operating disk like Windows(?), where you insert it and when it tries to install it will ask you to format hard drive? you allow this to run until it has reformatted hard drive. THis will put your version of Windows on the pc hard drive and have wiped whatever else was on the drive before.
if you just want a wipe of drive take it out of PC chasis and run a magnet all over it. or put it in another pc drive bay and run dos Format command on that drive letter (E:) or whatever letter is assigned to it.
more info about what or why you want to do something helps us to give you the best answer(solution) to your questions.

Format hard drive

This is generally how your format the hard diskand install Windows.
First you need a Windows XP or Windows Vista installation CD and the productinstallation code, which is printed on the Windows label on the bottom of yourlaptop.
Boot up with the Windows installation CD start and follow the instructions toinstall Windows.
Next Delete the existing Windows partition.
Next Create a new partition.
Next format this new partition - Format the partition in NTFS not a quickformat. This will prepare the Windows for a clean install. Quick now if you only want to format the hard drive.

Will i loose pictures & other files if i format my pc

Yes you will lose all files when you format.
If you want to save your files but cannot open Windows on your computer then remove the hard drive from your computer and connect this hard drive into an USB hard drive adapter. Plug this adapter and hard drive into the USB port of a working computer, this computer will see this as an external storage device, you can then open the folders on this drive and copy/backup the various folders and files.
After you have copied/backup your files, you can install the hard drive back into your computer to format and reinstall Windows.

I accidentally reformat my removable hard disk, i need help on how to recover all lost data.

All your files are still stored on the removable hard drive. They're just invisible or inaccessible. You can recover them with data recovery software.

I used this one to recover files from my formatted external hard drive and it worked. Anyway, you can download it and scan your removeable hard drive for free to preview whether you can recover your data.
Hope this help!

Before formatting the drive, be sure to back up any data from the external hard drive that you want to keep. If you want to make your external hard drive bootable, make sure the "File System" option on the "Format" screen matches your operating system. For Windows XP, the file system should be NTFS, while for Windows 98, it would be Fat 32.
Step1 Attach the external hard drive to your computer with the supplied cables. Most modern external hard drives are attached via one of the USB ports on your computer. Older drives may be attached via either the serial port or the parallel (or printer) port.
Step2Click on "My Computer" to see if your computer recognizes that the drive has been installed. If the drive is not showing, reboot your computer and check again. Step3Right-click on the letter that corresponds to your external hard drivemag-glass_10x10.gif. This will most likely be the letter "E" or higher, as your primary drive will be "C" and your CD or DVD drive will be "D." Step4Click on "Format" from the option screen that is displayed. Step5Choose the options you want from the "Format" screen. In most cases, the first three options should be left as is. You can give the drive a volume name in the text box that is provided, if you desire. Step6Click on the "Start" button to begin the process. When the formatting is complete, the external hard drive will be ready for use.

How can i format my hp desktop??

Well there are a couple different solutions. If you have another hard drive replace it with your other one and make the one that you want to format the secondary hard drive. Then after you boot the computer, all you gotta do is go to my computer and which ever drive the hard drive is set up on you can right click on the right drive. Go to where it says format and click on it and then follow the instructions.

You can also format the hard drive if you got a windows disk. Just put the disk in your cd-rom and restart the computer and then go through the setup process. You will get to a point where it will ask you if you wanna keep the files the same or do you wanna format the hard drive. There are two options for fomatting: There is a quick format or a full format. If you wanna totally wipe everything off the hard drive make sure you do the full format. It only takes a little while longer than the quick format process, so you are just better wiping it totally clean and then reboot windows on the hard drive when it is done formatting......
