Hi there, I'm hoping somebody can help me out? I have a washer/dryer and the dryer is not working. The drum rotates but does not heat up and the clothes are still very damp/wet Whilst the washer works ok and I've never had a problem with the clothes not being cleaned I'm not sure if it heats up as I've used the setting for 90 degrees and 30 degrees and put my hand on the door and I can't feel the difference. Can anybody help? Thanks

There are several reasons why a dryer would not heat up the clothes.

  1. The vent is plugged with lint or the blower set-screw is loose (blower slips on the motor shaft instead of spinning full speed). If you do not have good airflow at the outside exhaust when the dryer is running, you'll need to check the ductwork all the way back to the lint trap. If the lint trap is torn, repair or replace it.
  2. The heaters are not working due to a bad contact in the timer or one of the two thermostats. Check for continuity in the heater circuit with the dryer unplugged.
  3. The heaters are burned out. Note the plural - most dryers have two heaters, one for low heat, the other for medium, and both for high. Try a different heat setting and see if you get warm air. If you do, the heater you normally use is the problem.

My previous comment was supposed to be a numbered list (three items) of the reasons why a dryer would not heat, but the numbers don't show up in the completed post due to a glitch in the page programming or incompatibility with my ancient web browser.

Maytag dryer drum not rotating

Sounds like the belt that turns the drum has slipped off or broken. Not sure if I would consider this a DIY project, but if this is the problem, a professional fix should not cost much.

I HAVE A TUMBLE DRYER BECKO DRVS62W THE BELT HAS SNAPPED HOW DO I REPLACE IT. THE DRUM DOES NOT ROTATE MANUALLY IS THIS ANOTHER PROBLEM OR WILL THE DRUM ROTATE ONCE THE BELT HAS BEEN REPLACED.

Hi,
If this is an electric tumble dryer,
the way to replace the belt is from the rear of the machine,
remove all the screws on the rear silver panel, which gives you access to the internals of the dryer.
And yes the drum wont turn properly if the belt is broken.

I hope this helps you.
If so please leave a vote or comment.

Have a great day

Dryer heats up but does not rotate - only squeals

Check to see if the dryer drum will turn by hand. If not, look for a sock or other small garment that may be wedged between the drum and the dryer. It's remotely possible that the bearing has seized.

If the drum turns fairly easily by hand, the belt is probably loose (worn and stretched) and needs replacement. Check repairclinic.com for the part and a how-to video, if you want to try to repair it yourself.

DRUM IS NOT ROTATING, BLOWER IS WORKING AND IS PRODUCING HEAT could i have blown a belt?

Try this first:
Unplug the dryer, reach inside and try to rotate the drum 1/4-1/2 turn, sometimes motors get dead zones in them and this will rotate it out of the zone if that is your problem.
If that did not work then chances are that you have a broken belt.
If you have a front loading machine:
If you remove the front of the dryer, it will expose the drum and the belt, if you remove the drum it will expose the drum rollers, motor, and idler pulley.
I hope this helps
