Question about Goodman Air Conditioners

Open Question

On a goodman M#GUN075-3B the old Fan Control board part# B18099-02 is replaced with part # B18099-04 and calls to remove the yellow wire and discard. The yellow wire is for the compressor so how do you wire it then to get the compressor to run.

SOURCE: GE AGQ10AJ - Compressor not turning on

Most of the cases when tou heard a click on and off is aproblem with the compresor that goes off on overload, when the compresor try to start and is stuck , burned or the starting coil inside it is open it's overheat and goes off by the thermo bimetal switch. Also could be the capacitor, to check it you need a capacitor tester, but if you don't have it you can try to put anew one (no more than 10 $) and see what happend if still the compresor is getting hot and won't turn on it's burned, jamed or open , and you have to replce it ,if it's less than a year old it should be under warranty but if not is an expensive job and you better get a new unit.

SOURCE: Goodman CK36-18: Outside fan kicks on, but

Sounds like a bad capacitor. They can be bad and the fan will still run. Turn off power and check for burnt wires on the top of the contactor going to the capacitor or on the top of the capacitor.. Check terminals on the compressor also. When capacitors go bad they are slightly swollen. They can also look good and be bad . Could be compressor but start with capacitir and wires. IWork on a lot goodman units. Most of the time it is the cap.

SOURCE: Blowing hot air, compressor not kicking on, just fan ? ?

are you speaking of the outside fan or inside? compressor should be a little warm but not boiling hot. the unit could be low on freon. if low it will run a while but the compressor will overheat and shut off leaving the fan running by itself ouside. if nothing outside is running check power. if you have power check the contacted outside to make sure it's pulled in. contacters are bad about going out on goodman untis. Also ants can get under contacts.

There is a short in the control wiring that needs to be tracked down. Ohm the wiring to the low voltage controls, ie thermostat wiring and thermostat. Try disconnecting the thermostat wires to rule out the problem in the control wiring to the thermostat or thermostat itself, then install a new transformer without connecting the thermostat wiring, jump the red and green wire at the unit low voltage connections to test blower, and then add yellow for compressor, should be no more than 3 amps on control side wiring with A/C on.
If the problems still exists without the thermostat wiring connected then there is a problem in the wiring in the unit or control board itself.

Never got an answer to ? on a new goodman board #B1809913S. I want to know where to hook up the a/c circuits, yellow for t-stat =cool, and the cond wires. there is no terminals on the board for these...

Most of the time you would hook it up to Y on the furnace terminal strip. G would you to G which is Fan control....... But if you don't have a terminal on the furnace you can hook up the yellow wire from the thermostat Y directly to the condensor wires from the AC and the other wire from the condernsor to C common ternimal........ just make sure that the blower fan comes on with the AC or it won't cool.

Does your new motor have two sets of short wires with connectors in the middle of them? If so then it is reversible and the instructions for doing so are printed on the motor data plate on the side of the motor. If it does not have these wires then reverse the polarity of the two power leads as they come off the top of the contactor, that should fix your problem.

Disconnect the yellow Y1 wire from the thermostat to the control board in the air handling unit and read the voltage from C - common to the yellow wire. It should be 24 VAC, 0 VDC. If it is, cconnect the wire back to the control board. Now, disconnect the yellow Y1 wire at the outdoor condenser. You should have 24 VAC, 0 VDC. If you have the lower ac voltage and the dc voltage, you may need to replace the control board. Please shut down power before removing or connecting wires and remember to wait for the 3 minute delay before checking the voltage

Fuse on control module blows when calling for cooling

Yes.
Disconnect the the red and the yellow wires at the outdoor unit. Then replace the fuse and turn on the power.......see if the fuse blew. If the fuse blew, your problem is most likely a short in the low voltage wiring. Check for crimped or damage wire or wire insulation and repair as necessary. If the fuse is okay, then the problem is within your outdoor unit.......again inspect all wiring for any damaged insulation or crimped wiring.
Check these items and let us know.....we can guide you further after you perform these checks. :-)
